NRM Caucus Endorses Hon. Jacob Oboth Oboth for Speaker and Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa for Deputy Speaker of the 12th Parliament
State House, Entebbe – 24 May 2026
His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni today met the first National Resistance Movement [NRM] Caucus of the 12th Parliament at State House Entebbe.
During the meeting, the Caucus formally endorsed Hon. Jacob Oboth Oboth as the NRM candidate for Speaker of Parliament and Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa as the NRM candidate for Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
President Museveni congratulated both Hon. Oboth Oboth and Rt. Hon. Tayebwa on their endorsement. He reminded the Caucus of the NRM’s foundational principle of rejecting bad politics in leadership selection.
“When choosing leaders, we must first ask what needs to be done for the people before asking who should do it,” President Museveni stated.
He urged members to reject politics based on identity, religion, tribalism, and gender chauvinism, and instead focus on solving the practical problems facing Ugandans. The President reaffirmed that the NRM’s priority remains wealth creation and socio-economic transformation through productive engagement in agriculture, services, artisanship, and information and communication technology [ICT].
The endorsement positions Hon. Oboth Oboth and Rt. Hon. Tayebwa as the party’s official candidates ahead of the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker for the 12th Parliament.
