Love & Relationships, Beauty & Body Standards, Personal Accountability and YouTube Coaching, are my channel’s main topics.
My most noteworthy channel series are:
-The Slim Thick Series
-The Invisible Black Woman
I am also a former African American and African history college instructor. My YouTube content is a marriage between my academic knowledge, lived experience, and societal observations as a Black woman. As the author of two books, I highlight topics that are not widely discussed. I also provide cultural commentary from the perspective of a Black woman.
My media business, Curated Legacy LLC, helps aspiring YouTube content creators to get started and grow their channels. If you are interested in my speaking, coaching/consulting service, or if you want to advertise, etc., please reach out to me on Instagram @nnekaonyilofor or go to my website: nnekaonyilofor.com/contact

I know that some of you are sick of hearing about Cheyenne Bryant, however, this fiasco is a vehicle that can be used to discuss many important things: motherhood, wifehood, light skin, etc....or the lack thereof. If you are a woman in particular and you find yourself getting triggered by my candid opinion on any of this...remember that many triggers (including the ones I have within me), come from a place of insecurity & unhealed hurt.
The plot twist is that the "You" in YouTube means "Me" in this case. My perspective & opinion…because these are my videos on my channel. Special shout out to everyone who has the skill set to disagree with me without being disrespectful. As always, stay tuned 💜.

I had a very unpleasant interaction from yet another Nigerian (Igbo) pharmacist at Walgreens. He said my name to me about 15 times in frustration after hearing the way I pronounce it. I don't think people understand that my name and many names that are considered "foreign" do not always sound good when said with an American accent. It can sometimes sound & feel inauthentic for an American to pretend to have an Igbo accent for the purpose of saying a name.
This may be a “controversial” opinion, but I stand on it. I do not expect an American to pronounce my name the way a Nigerian would, similar to the way I pronounce a lot of Spanish words/names with my very American accent (I don't roll r's or anything). Some people believe that you need to force people to "say your name right". However, many women with my name Americanize it and only "say it right" around Nigerians to avoid being judged lol.
We have to accept that the Americanization of a name is not always bad. The reality is that some names were meant to be pronounced with the accent of the culture that it comes from, and in lieu of the accent, you are actually asking people to be fake by forcing them to say it the way a Nigerian/Igbo person would.
The counter argument to this is that people claim that Americans are "too lazy" to say certain names correctly, which can sometimes be true lol. Another counter argument is that people who Americanize their name are "ashamed of being African". This may be true for some, but not all.
My father allowed Black Americans to say my name "wrong" and now I understand why he didn't force them to speak in a false accent to say it "right" (although it did lead to some atrocious versions of my name being spoken lol). I think it's important to say a person's name the way THEY want it said, not always the way the culture wants it said. I am open to any feedback/counter argument about this. This debate has been the story of my life, so anything you say here will not be taken personal. As usual, stay tuned! 💜

It's important that we learn to have mature conversations without assuming that the commentator (me) is jealous of the person they are talking about; or, assuming that you know more about a situation that neither of us have all the details about.
If someone puts their personal business on the internet, it can become "fair use" for any content creator. There are some people (mostly women), who become emotional and tell me to "leave the person alone" as if the subjects in my videos are being bullied. We are allowed to have different opinions, but remember, this is my channel…and your opinion will not dominate my channel (swipe to see the comment).
As a content creator/business owner (me), I seek out authentic stories (which is a gem in the world of media). With print based journalism (my former job), I had to search to find stories in the community. With the rise of content creation, stories are served to me in my feed (via the algorithm). It is an art to choose the stories that resonate with me and my audience. I then run the story through my own personal filter (which is not perfect, but it’s my own).
There are no completely safe spaces online. Only a false sense of security. This is why I share moments, but not intimate details about my personal life. I have been in the content game consistently for almost 4 years now, so I know a thing or two. As always, stay tuned 💜.

Just dropping by to thank Black & Invisible channel members for your support. I currently have 29 Member-Only videos available…if you are interested in becoming a channel member:
youtube.com/channel/UCeskSjOawsNehsmblSRFs4A/join
These videos are conversational & feature me talking about topics, relevant to the Black community.
I truly appreciate the support many of you have shown over the years. Some of you all support YouTube videos more than mainstream media & Netflix. Almost 20-30% of my audience watches my videos on their television.
The future of content creation is looking very promising, even for those of us with small channels.
As always…stay tuned! 🤗💜

The reality is, what we create: our videos, books, posts, podcasts etc, may outlive us as content creators. The essence of why I started my media business, is represented in Soncerae’s story.
I didn't like that Soncerae leaned heavily on AI images of herself toward the end of her life. If you look at many of her social media pages, it is flooded with an AI avatar, that represented the life she wanted & not the life she was living. I also know that there is still speculation that she may be alive…I have some skepticism too. However, until I hear otherwise, I will assume she is no longer with us.
If there are ideas, creative endeavors, businesses, etc, that you want to put out in the world…don't delay. Tomorrow is never promised. As always, stay tuned. 🕊️💜 #curatedlegacymedia

I was a recent guest on the B.O.O.S.T. Podcast with my former Coach (swipe to see). If you want to hear me go deeper into the topic of "The Invisible Black Woman" and more, click the link below to listen.
Also pictured, is another speaking opportunity that I had (with another former Coach), a few years ago. I have worked with a few Black women Coaches who have challenged & inspired me. My former Coaches & the women pictured, were respectful and asked insightful questions. Even if they disagreed, they challenged me to think deeper about my ideas.
You cannot critique Black women if you are not in community with them. I appreciate the like-minded Black women and men, who support my ideas & perspective. As always, stay tuned. 💜
