🌧️ Pediatric Tip – Rainy Season Precautions

Ensure children wear light, quick-dry clothes & proper footwear to avoid fungal infections.

Give only boiled/filtered water; avoid street food to prevent diarrhea & typhoid.

Protect from mosquito bites with nets/repellents to reduce dengue, malaria, chikungunya.

Keep surroundings clean & dry, no stagnant water near home.

Encourage handwashing before meals to prevent viral & bacterial infections.

In case of persistent fever, cough, loose stools, or rash, consult a doctor early.

👉 Rainy season = high risk of infections. A little care now can prevent big problems later!

🌟 Pediatrics Tip of the Day 🌟

🤧 Influenza & RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) are the two most common viral infections in children during seasonal surges.

Why important?
👉 Both can cause fever, cough, cold, and breathing difficulty.
👉 Infants, preterm babies, and children with heart/lung disease are at higher risk of severe illness.

Prevention tips for parents:
✅ Frequent handwashing 🧼
✅ Avoid sending sick children to school/daycare 🤒
✅ Keep infants away from crowded places during peak season 🏥
✅ Annual flu vaccine protects against influenza 💉
✅ No routine RSV vaccine yet, but special preventive injections (palivizumab/nirsevimab) are advised for high-risk babies.

💡 Remember: Early medical attention for breathing difficulty, fast breathing, wheezing, or poor feeding can be lifesaving.

Pediatric Tip of the Day: Choking in Children

Choking is silent but deadly! 🚨 Most common in toddlers under 3 years. Small objects like coins, marbles, balloons, and even foods like nuts or grapes can block their tiny airways. Prevention is the best protection — keep hazar

🔹 Which age is most common?

Choking is most common between 6 months and 3 years of age.

At this age:

Children explore the world by putting objects in their mouths.

They lack molar teeth → cannot grind food properly.

Their airways are small and easily blocked.

They are active, curious, and not always under supervision.

🔹 Why is it common?

Developmental stage: Infants/toddlers use oral exploration.

Airway anatomy: Narrow trachea (as small as a straw).

Chewing ability: Incomplete dentition → food not broken down well.

Behavior: Running, laughing, or crying while eating.

Household hazards: Easily accessible small objects.

🔹 Common choking hazards

👉 Parents must be alert to things children may accidentally swallow or choke on:

Household items: Keys, marbles, safety pins, buttons, coins, screws, small batteries, hair clips, cosmetic beads/boxes, needles.

Toys/party items: Balloons (especially burst latex balloons), small toy parts.

Food: Grapes, nuts, popcorn, hard candies, chunks of apple/carrot.

Medicines: Tablets/capsules (if swallowed whole).

---

🔹 Parent awareness tip

Always keep small objects out of reach.

Supervise meals — avoid giving hard, round foods (grapes, nuts) to children <5 yrs unless cut or mashed.

Educate caregivers that prevention is the best first aid for choking

Pediatric tip of the day for the children

🌟 Pediatrics Tip of the Day 🌟

Viral fevers are common in kids this season 🦠👶

✔️ Rest, fluids, and fever medicines are usually enough.
✔️ Antibiotics are NOT needed for most viral fevers.

🚫 Don’t force your doctor to prescribe antibiotics.
🚫 Don’t ask a pharmacist blindly for antibiotics.

👉 Unnecessary antibiotics can cause side effects and resistance, making future infections harder to treat.

Trust your pediatrician — not every fever needs antibiotics. 🧑‍⚕️💊

Does Soap Kill Rabies?

Wound washing with soap & running water for 15 minutes is the first and most critical step after a dog/cat bite.

Soap and water inactivate & wash away a significant portion of the rabies virus present in the wound.

BUT ❌ — soap alone cannot guarantee complete virus removal.

👉 The rabies virus can quickly enter nerve endings at the bite site. Once inside nerves, no soap, medicine, or drug can reach it.

---

💉 Why Vaccine & Immunoglobulin Are Needed

Rabies vaccine stimulates the immune system to produce protective antibodies against the virus.

Rabies immunoglobulin (RIG) gives immediate neutralizing antibodies at the wound site, especially in severe bites (Category III).

Together with wound washing, they prevent the virus from reaching the brain.

⚠️ Without vaccine & RIG (when indicated), rabies cannot be prevented 100%.
Once symptoms start → rabies is 100% fatal.

🛑 One dog bite can change everything… but quick action saves lives! 🐕💉
Every year, thousands of kids are exposed to rabies in India – a disease that’s 100% preventable but still claims lives because of delay or wrong home remedies.

✅ Wash the wound with soap & water for 15 mins
✅ Rush to the hospital for anti-rabies vaccine ± immunoglobulin
❌ Don’t apply turmeric, lime, chilli, coffee powder, or oils
