Was wondering if anyone has tried out Phaser Desktop yet, and what your initial thoughts are?

Anything in particular you like/dislike so far?

Also curious — would you be interested in seeing some content around this new tool?

Hey everyone! 👋

I wanted to share a quick preview of something I’ve been working on — recreating the trippy, animated battle scene effects from EarthBound in Phaser 3 using WebGL shaders, and combining all of these effects at once.

🎥 Check out the demo: https://youtu.be/hnB0UP24cKc?si=Gkcd4...

Once we’ve covered each concept in the series, we’ll wrap up by combining all the effects using render textures and composite pipelines to get the final layered look you see in the preview.

If you haven’t started the tutorial series yet, you can catch up here: youtube.com/playlist?list=PLm...

So far, we’ve explored:

- Palette cycling
- Horizontal oscillation
- Vertical oscillation

Are there any other WebGL/shader concepts you’d like to see covered? Drop your ideas in the comments — I’d love to hear them!

What Phaser 3 concepts would you like to see explained in short-form videos, or covered in a deeper dive tutorial?

Hey everyone! Not sure if any of you have used RPG Maker before or if you're interested in it, but right now, you can grab RPG Maker VX Ace for FREE on Steam, as part of the RPG Maker Festival!

I've checked out RPG Maker in the past but never really tried one myself. I did mess around with the original RPG Maker on PlayStation One, but that was a long time ago 😆.

If you’re interested, you can get it here: store.steampowered.com/app/220700/RPG_Maker_VX_Ace…

Also, there's a Game Programming book bundle on Humble Bundle right now that looks pretty interesting: www.humblebundle.com/books/game-programming-pearso…

Let me know if you pick up either of these!

Hey everyone!

Even though it feels like we just started 2025, it's already February—time flies! This past month has been a blur, but I wanted to take a moment to share some updates on what I've been working on.

Collaborating on Word Rummy

In December and most of January, I started collaborating with Stone Fruit Studios (www.stonefruitinteractive.com/) on a new word puzzle game called Word Rummy, which you can now play on Discord! The game supports both single-player (against a bot) and multiplayer with others on Discord.

This was a really fun learning experience since I got to work with Discord Activities and dive deeper into Playroom Kit. If you're interested in seeing more about the game, I have a trailer on the channel you can watch here: https://youtu.be/bzueG2kcL2k

You can also test out the game directly here: discord.com/activities/1323042817173491762?referre….

If you do try out the game, I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback!

Progress on the Zelda-Like Game Course

Besides Word Rummy, I've been heads-down working on the Build a Zelda-like Game course that I announced at the end of last year. I feel like I’ve made a lot of progress, but I’m still finalizing the release date.

So far, I’ve wrapped up the code for each section, recorded about 65% of the content, and started editing—which takes the longest time! I’m really excited for this course and can’t wait to share it with everyone. If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, check it out here: https://youtu.be/B8mpV_hgBsI.

New Content on the Channel

I've also been working on new content for the channel, some of which is already live! Here's a quick look at what's new and coming soon:

- More Monster Tamer series content
- A new Phaser Editor tutorial on building a game like the classic NES game Fire 'n Ice
- A multiplayer Connect Four game tutorial

Let me know which of these you’re most excited about!

A Big Thank You! 🎉

I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who supports this channel—whether by subscribing, watching, sharing the content, or supporting directly on Ko-fi. The channel recently hit over 1,400 subscribers, and I can’t believe how much it has grown since the start of 2024.

In December, I launched a Ko-fi page, but I haven't promoted it directly in my recent videos—only in video descriptions. If you're interested in supporting the channel, you can check it out here: ko-fi.com/scottwestover.

Thank you all again for your support—it truly means the world to me!

Best regards,
Scott
