According to the statement, Nguyen died at 108 Central Military Hospital in Hanoi at 1:38 pm local time. The party's authorities added they will soon reveal a special announcement on the state funeral.
Nguyen was also the country's president from 2018 to 2021. Often described as a more conservative Marxist-Leninist, he cultivated friendly relations with countries such as the United States and China and led a large-scale anti-corruption campaign between 2017 and 2020.
