The Temple Girl — India's Civilization, Told Through Its Temples
I'm Namratha Mohan. I travel across Bharat to document ancient temples, rare rituals, and living traditions that most people have never heard of — and share them in simple, soulful English so every devotee, whether in India or across the world, can connect with Sanatana Dharma.

Late nights. Lots of research. So much travel.
Manuscripts, old texts, temple visits across five states, and conversations with families who have served Vishnu for generations. Stories that no one has told before.
It has been one of the most intense and beautiful journeys of our lives. And the book is finally shaping up well.
My book on Vishnu. For @penguinindia. More updates along the way.
Are you looking forward to the book?

The Temple Girl
When people hear Padmanabhaswamy Temple, most of them think of only one thing.
The vaults.
Gold. Hidden chambers. Secret doors. Snake legends.
But the real wonder of Padmanabhaswamy Temple is not hidden behind a locked door.
It is lying right there in front of every devotee.
The 18 foot reclining form of Padmanabhaswamy is not just a stone murti. It was built through an extraordinary traditional method, where wood, coconut fibre, sacred Salagrama stones, and Katu Sarkara Yogam come together like the anatomy of a divine body.
Wood became the framework.
Coconut fibre became the nadi system.
12,008 Salagrama stones became the sacred inner body.
Katu Sarkara Yogam became the protective skin.
This is not just devotion.
This is sacred engineering.
This is the genius of our temple tradition.
The world kept talking about the treasure inside the vaults.
But the real treasure was always in plain sight.
This is the greatness of Sanatana Dharma.
Share this proudly so more people know what our temples truly hold.

400k and I truly see it as 400thousand souls walking this sacred journey with me!
Like I always say, every step I take into a temple feels multiplied because now it carries the footsteps, prayers, love, and energy of all of you walking beside me.
P.S. For everyone who always asks who shoots while I travel, how I travel, and who comes along… here he is. My husband, my cameraman, my director, my producer, my biggest cheerleader, and the one who has been behind the scenes since day one. So when you see this journey, it has always been us walking this path together ♥️
But truly, this is only the beginning. There is so much more to learn, so much more to explore, and so many more sacred stories, experiences, and moments to share with each one of you.
Thank you for every follow, every message, every prayer, every kind word, and every bit of love you have sent my way. I carry it all with immense gratitude, today and always. Grateful forever ♥️♥️♥️

The ONLY Parasurama Temple in Kerala!!
Thiruvallam Sree Parasurama Swami Temple in Trivandrum is 2000 years old, sits at the confluence of THREE rivers, houses shrines for Brahma, Vishnu & Shiva under one roof, and is the most powerful site in Kerala for Pitru Dosha & ancestor rituals. Adi Shankaracharya himself came here to perform Bali for his mother. It was extremely beautiful and rare site to see early in the morning while I was walking around the temple…

The Temple Girl
These last few days at Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala have been unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. The learning, the conversations, the people. Every single moment felt like a precious gift.
I attended the Abhishekam at 3:30 in the morning. I walked through the temple when everything was still and quiet, the air was fresh, and I just soaked in every ritual, every prayer, every sacred detail around me.
I also had the honor of meeting Princess Aswathi Thirunal Gouri Lakshmi Bayi and Princess Pooyam Thirunal Gouri Parvathi Bayi of the Travancore royal family. Two of the most grounded, warm, and humble souls I’ve ever sat with. I learned so much in these few days.
This is truly a temple with phenomenal history, breathtaking architecture, and a living tradition that has been carried forward over centuries.
And you know, this is what temples do. They don’t just bring you closer to God. They bring you closer to the most beautiful version of people, of traditions, of culture, of history, and of course, yourself.
Padmanabhaswamy, Rakshamam 🙏

The Temple Girl
I was walking slowly through a narrow lane in Trivandrum’s old city, lost in my own thoughts when suddenly a girl came running towards me from her scooter.
No phone in hand, just pure joy in her eyes.
It took me a moment to even register what was happening. Since i thought there is Zero chance of being recognized.
And then she said, “Ma’am, I follow you ‘The Temple Girl’. I love your work…..and she was so excited about everything we do…every temple I share…..and most importantly my sarees 😅”
I don’t think she’ll ever know how much that moment meant to me. The spark in her eyes and the excitement and happinesses was something special…Sometimes God sends you a reminder right in the middle of an ordinary moment.
I asked her to wait — because I wanted a picture with her. These are the moments I want to remember.
To everyone who watches, shares, and sends love I may never get to meet all of you. But you make this journey more meaningful than I can put into words. 🙏
