The Third Century Crisis was one of the most dangerous periods in the history of the Roman Empire. Between 235 and 284 AD, the empire faced constant turmoil. Emperors rose and fell quickly, often through military coups and assassinations. Political stability collapsed, the economy weakened, and foreign enemies attacked the borders from every direction.
The crisis began after the fall of the Severan Dynasty. During this time, the military gained more power than the traditional civil government. As a result, generals could easily claim the throne, leading to a rapid turnover of rulers. At the same time, the empire began to break apart. The western provinces formed the Gallic Empire, while the eastern regions were controlled by the Palmyrene Empire.
Amid this chaos, Aurelian emerged as a powerful leader. Through bold military campaigns, he defeated Rome’s enemies and reunified the fractured empire. His reforms strengthened the economy, the army, and even religious unity. Because of these achievements, he earned the title “Restorer of the World.”
Although Aurelian was eventually assassinated by his own officers, his efforts saved the empire and prepared the way for future reforms under Diocletian. video is here " youtube.com/shorts/GJH8ZkbERTs
