Imagine a dinghy taking off with your loved ones, and you’re the person that’s left behind. That is the literal meaning of ‘VERAVU ‘WANIRA.’ So from a relationship point of view, the words talk about, how saying goodbye to someone you truely love, even though it hurts you, is so very sad and heartbreaking.
The story of this song takes place in Keapara, where a boy and a girl had been going out for sometime. The boy being from the village and the girl based in Port Moresby.
The boy would always want to see her everyday. So every night, he would go out fishing, and without sleeping would travel all the way from the village to POM, just so that he could see her and give her all that he had gathered , because that is how much he really loved her. One day upon travelling to POM, he noticed a few people talking and laughing about him. He eventually confronted them and asked why he was being mocked, and was told that the girl he had been seeing was betraying his trust and love. He shrugged it off, and ignored what was being said. But somewhere deep down he had his doubts.
It wasn’t until he saw her with another man, in a vehicle which would take him a lifetime to buy that he realised that she was too good for him. He knew what he had to do, and that was to say goodbye to her even though , he really did not want to, and even though it hurt him so much, it was the right thing to do. But in their last moments, with tears rolling down his eyes, he said his last goodbye.
