The growing power demands of hyperscale data centers are placing stringent new demands on efficient power conversion, a key condition that existing grids must meet to keep up with the AI-driven cloud computing boom.

Everything is stored in the cloud these days, but where is the cloud?

The answer is in the #datacenter — the insatiable demand for more pictures, videos, and everything else means the data center industry is booming.

The explosive growth in the field of #artificialintelligence (AI) has dramatically increased data center power demand, with data center power consumption expected to more than double in the three years between 2022 and 2025, according to the #InternationalEnergyAgency (hashtag#IEA). In addition to the increased costs, this is also putting pressure on aging power infrastructure, which is already underpowered and requires new investment.

As we move toward net zero emissions, the surge in data center power usage means a growing demand for power semiconductors that can efficiently convert power to reduce costs and greenhouse gas emissions. There is also a continued push for lower total system costs and smaller power systems.

A big problem for data centers is cooling, which is currently estimated to account for more than 40% of most data center power usage. In fact, when we talk about power efficiency, wasted energy is simply dissipated as heat, which needs to be removed by the data center’s air conditioning system. Therefore, more efficient power conversion means less heat, which means less money spent on cooling electricity.

In the recently released #HomeSmartSensorsMarket Report 2024 by Cognitive Market Research, the report authors state that the global home smart sensor market will soon see significant growth.

In addition to sensors for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and lighting systems, sensors for safety and security are also specifically covered in the report, with other sensor applications accounting for about 1/3 of the total.
