When I look around the world today, what I see is a lot of separation. Groups of people who see themselves as distinct from others—different, apart, even opposed. You hear it in the language: “Those people,” “You people.” And with that separation comes fighting. People don’t like others who hold different beliefs, or they harbor resentment toward another race because of some concept they’ve formed about what those people are doing to their society. Whether those ideas are true or not, the emotional reaction is real.
But when I look at the world, I don’t see groups of people. I see people. Just people. And what I’ve come to realize is that we are far more alike than we are different. It doesn’t matter what culture we come from or what beliefs we hold—there are certain things we all share as human beings. We all need food. We all need shelter. We all need community, family, and connection. And we all need some kind of relationship with the spiritual aspect of life, however we perceive it.
Every culture has its own way of honoring spirit, of connecting to something greater than itself. But here in the West, we’ve lost so much by separating ourselves—not just from nature, but from each other. Our nuclear families have become islands, with aunts, uncles, grandparents scattered miles or even countries away. We think we have to do everything ourselves, even heal our own traumas, because we lack a shared cultural framework for healing.
And instead of rituals that bring us together, we have things like social media that drive us further apart. We have politicians who stoke anger and hatred, who amplify division. It’s no wonder the world feels like it’s in such a mess.
I’ve been thinking a lot about this: how often our attempts to make ourselves feel safe end up making someone else feel unsafe. And that’s a terrible shame, isn’t it? It causes so much pain in the world.
What I’ve discovered is that if we could just acknowledge our sameness instead of our differences, it would be so much easier to see things from another person’s point of view. To understand that the people with the other opinions, the other culture, the other way of life—they’re not so different after all. They have the same needs as we do. And like us, they just want to be happy.
That’s the heart of it, isn’t it? We all just want to be happy and not suffer. But how do you show people that we are more the same than we are different? I don’t know. I don’t have the answers. I’m just an artist.
The Role of Art in Bridging the Divide
What I do know is that art has a role to play. Movies, theater, stories—they have this incredible ability to help us see each other as human, to remind us of our shared humanity.
In the worlds I create with my AI art music videos, I try to weave that thread of connection into every piece. You’ll see elves, dragons, lizard people, or cats in medieval settings. You’ll see worlds painted in gray and red, with barely a hint of blue. But no matter how fantastical the setting, the elements are always the same.
These beings—whether they look like lizards or cats or something else entirely—they all have ways to make their food. They have families. They tend their fields, meet their needs, and honor the spiritual in their own way.
That’s my way of saying, “Look, these people might look different, but they’re just people. They have the same needs, the same wants, the same desires.”
This brings me to my latest AI art music video creation, The Gathering of the Clans. In this world, you’ll see different peoples coming together for a clan ritual—a big, communal gathering. It’s my way of saying that community matters. Gathering matters.
In all of my worlds, you’ll find this theme: people coming together. Because I believe that’s vital. It’s a reminder that we’re not meant to live in isolation, that we need each other.
So I invite you to step into these worlds I’ve built. Watch the video. Let yourself be transported. And if you’re curious to explore these ideas further—this intersection of artistry, psychology, spirituality, and reflection—my Psychemagination books are waiting for you.

Meditation can be approached many different ways, which is great for those who tend to get bored easily. Instead of doing the same thing everyday, we can change our approach depending on how we feel. After all, what's important for our mental clarity and focus is that we do some form of meditation each day. It doesn't matter what kind of meditation it is.
All meditation has one thing in common - an object on which to focus such as:
Our breath
An image
Sounds
A mantra
An imagined scene or deity
The thoughts passing through our mind
The present moment
The last two are not a good starting point for beginners as it's easier to be distracted with them, but once we become familiar with meditation, these are very powerful methods of meditation. But no matter what kind of object you choose to focus on, after a while the sense of separation between the meditator and the object tends to dissolve leaving us simply resting in awareness of the present moment. And that is the jumping-off point for the next stage of meditation when that awareness looks at itself and discovers ... well, I'm not going to tell you because it's really best we discover that for ourselves.
Anyway, here is a guided listening meditation in a song, listen to it, do what the lyrics say and let me know how it went in the comments below.
I think these words from the song are worth a bit of contemplating:
Like sound, thoughts rise and fade away. Enter the silence they leave in their wake, and dwell in the pause between. Simply be.
Here's the rest of the lyrics - the guided practice.
[Verse 1]
Listen
Listen now
Don’t label the sounds.
Simply listen
[Verse 2]
Just listen
And hear what is to be heard
without comment.
Simply listen
[Verse 3 ]
Rest your attention
lightly, spaciously
on the sounds.
Simply listen
[chorus]
When thoughts arise,
Let them go
And return to the sound.
Simply listen
[bridge]
Thoughts rise and fade away.
Enter the silence
They leave in their wake
Dwell in the pause between
[Verse 4]
Listen to everything
Everywhere around
No particular focus.
Simply listen.
[Verse 5]
Listen to everything
Without commentary.
Without judgement.
Just aware of the listening.
[chorus]
When thoughts arise,
Let them go
And return to the sound.
Simply listen
[Verse 6]
Awareness expands
To encompass
everything.
In all directions.
remain there,
in awareness
undistracted.
Simply be.
[Outro]
Like sound
thoughts rise and fade away.
Enter the silence
They leave in their wake
And dwell in the pause between
Simply be

As a species, we’ve reached a painful turning point. Animals are vanishing, ecosystems are collapsing, climate disasters are becoming commonplace, and even our communities are fracturing under the weight of fear and division. Beneath all of this lie two root causes: greed, and a profound loss of connection to the earth — the very mother who sustains us.
Many Westerners dismiss shamanic and animist cultures as primitive or superstitious, yet these traditions hold something we desperately need to remember: relationship. Their songs, rituals, and offerings were never about persuading the earth or the sky to grant favours. They were about cultivating humility. About remembering that we are part of a living web, not masters standing above it. Praise, in this context, isn’t magical thinking — it’s an attitude. A way of keeping the heart soft and the ego small. A way of staying aware of our interdependence with everything that allows us to live.
A culture that honours the land tends to protect it. A culture that sees the earth as a resource to plunder eventually destroys the ground beneath its own feet.
The song linked to in the comments came to me while sitting on my veranda, surrounded by the natural world I am so blessed to live within. It’s a small offering — a reminder, a gratitude, a way of listening. And perhaps, in its own quiet way, a call to remember what we’ve forgotten.
Do you relate to any of this? Let me know in the comments.

How a Gardening Accident Taught Me the Power of Gratitude
Have you ever had one of those moments where life throws you a curveball, and you’re left wondering how to make sense of it all? For me, it was a gardening accident—a painful, messy, and frankly embarrassing experience. But what surprised me most wasn’t the injury itself; it was the unexpected lesson it taught me about gratitude. And it ended up as a song and a video!
https://youtu.be/qXEKiRhC1OY
- The Problem: When Life Feels Overwhelming -
Let’s face it—life can be tough. Whether it’s the state of the world, personal struggles, or just the daily grind, it’s easy to feel weighed down. And when disaster strikes, it’s tempting to fall into the trap of negativity.
Do you ever find yourself asking, “Why me?” or focusing on everything that’s going wrong? It’s a natural reaction, but it can leave us stuck in a cycle of misery.
- Reframing the Situation -
Here’s the thing: while we can’t control everything that happens to us, we can control how we respond. It’s the classic glass-half-full or glass-half-empty dilemma. Do we focus on the pain and frustration, or do we look for the silver linings?
For me, the answer has always been to count my blessings. It’s what I call the “gratitude attitude,” and it’s a mindset that has helped me navigate life’s ups and downs.
- A Painful Lesson in Gratitude -
Let me share a story that brought this idea home for me.
It was a scorching hot day, and I was determined to get some gardening done before the heat became unbearable. In my rush, I made a careless decision: I went out wearing thongs (flip-flops) instead of proper shoes. Armed with a big digging fork, I started working away—until disaster struck.
I accidentally drove the fork into my foot. It didn’t go all the way through, but it came dangerously close. The pain was immediate and intense. I screamed, pulled the fork out, and grabbed my bleeding foot.
Luckily, my daughter was home and came to my rescue. I managed to elevate my foot on a nearby wire in the raspberry patch while she fetched the first aid kit. After a trip to the doctor and weeks of recovery, I was left feeling frustrated and, honestly, pretty stupid for not wearing proper footwear.
But as I sat with my leg elevated, unable to do much, I started reflecting on the situation. And that’s when I realized how lucky I had been.
- The Power of Counting Your Blessings: What I learned -
Here’s what I learned from that experience:
1. Support Matters
I wasn’t alone. My daughter was there to help me, and I had access to first aid supplies and medical care.
2. Perspective Changes Everything
Sure, I injured my foot, but it could have been much worse. I didn’t hit any tendons or bones, and only one prong of the fork went through.
3. Gratitude Shifts Your Mood
Focusing on what went right—rather than what went wrong—helped me stay positive during recovery.
4. Preparation Pays Off
Having a stocked medical cabinet and a phone on hand made a huge difference. It’s a reminder to always be prepared for the unexpected.
5. Life Is Still Good
I wasn’t dealing with a major catastrophe. I wasn’t alone, and I wasn’t in a war zone. In the grand scheme of things, this was a minor setback.
- Why Gratitude Matters -
This experience reminded me that gratitude isn’t just about feeling good—it’s about resilience. When we focus on the positives, we’re better equipped to handle life’s challenges.
In a world that often feels overwhelming, gratitude can be a powerful antidote to despair. It helps us see the beauty in the chaos and find strength in the face of adversity.
I- n Conclusion: A Gratitude Attitude -
So the next time life throws you a curveball, ask yourself: What’s going right in this situation? What blessings can I count?
For me, this gardening mishap inspired a song called 'Count Your Blessings'. The lyrics remind me that “a gratitude attitude makes the gloom go away.”
What about you? What’s one challenge you’ve faced that taught you the value of gratitude?

Ah the excitement of holding your latest book in your hand. No matter how many books you’ve published, it’s always a great day - unless, of course, you open the book and find a typo glaring at you! Luckily this wasn’t the case, though with this many pictures, the print job could have been an issue. It wasn’t. I’m very pleased with it.
The Story Behind the Book
Occasionally I used to explode with rage and had no idea why—until I met the small, stubborn voice inside me. With the help of a psychologist, I realised my sudden outbursts weren’t random. They were echoes—low‑grade trauma lodged in a younger self who had never been seen. For decades I ignored that small presence. I thought I was simply ‘too sensitive’ or ‘overreactive’. It wasn’t until I sat down and invited her to speak that the pattern revealed itself. She told me what had happened. I used imagination to go back, to stand between the past and the child, to protect her in the way she needed. The memory shifted. The charge eased. The rage that had surprised me for years began to dissolve.
This book is the map of that work. It’s not therapy in a clinical sense, but it is practical and grounded: guided active imagination exercises, compassionate prompts, and clear ways to hold the inner child safely. If you’ve ever wondered why small things trigger big reactions, or if you want to reclaim the vitality and playfulness you lost along the way, this book offers a way in. Read it as a stand‑alone guide, or pair it with Into the Underworld for a deeper symbolic context.

Yesterday I awoke with the first line of a poem in my mind, and I turned it into a song, you can listen to here. tahlianewland.bandcamp.com/track/the-land-of-the-t…
I sat down and wrote the whole thing, a pop-up poem a friend called it. It flowed like water out of my mind with only a few lines needing extra time taken with rhyme. Then I put it to music, turned it into a song. I didn't like what the AI generator came up with, so I sang it myself and recorded it into the AI program (Suno). It turned it into a beautifully sung, fully orchestrated piece of music. I never thought I could make music, but it's my song as I sung it, just way better than I could ever sing it. AI may destroy humanity, but it also allows some of us to move into new areas of creativity. Sigh.
And where did the idea come from? Artwork, of course, because I made a set of Tarot Cards - just the major acarna for now - and I did that to assist in my imaginative exploration of the psyche - Psychemagination.
You can listen to it on Bandcamp , but they've banned AI music, so it may not stay there long, but it's there for now. Let me know what you think of it.
