The Unseen Work


Hello everyone,✨

I'd like to share another progress update on the flying ship.

Just as I mentioned in my last post, I'm still spending my days making the countless parts that will eventually be attached to the ship.

The pieces you see in the photos are miniature buildings with tiny windows.

Every day is the same routine:
Cut plastic sheets, sand them, glue them together, and build another tiny structure.
Then repeat.

Since moving into my new workshop and setting up an electric tabletop belt sander, my workflow has become much smoother.

Before, the sander was in the garage next to my house. Every time I needed to adjust the size of a part, I had to leave the house, walk to the garage, sand it a tiny bit, then come back upstairs to my workroom... over and over again.

There were days when I climbed those stairs dozens of times, and I honestly thought my legs were going to give up on me. 😂

My next goal is to install a scroll saw in the workshop as well, so I can cut small wooden parts without leaving the room.

Making these little buildings is so much fun.

The problem is... it's not very exciting to watch.

I recently realized that while I enjoy making every single piece, it doesn't necessarily make for exciting photos or videos.

Each miniature has a different design, but the process is largely the same every time.

A huge amount of work goes into them, yet very little of that effort is actually visible.

Most of my day is spent shaving off just half a millimeter here, adjusting another tiny piece there...

There are no dramatic moments. 😂

Since this project uses very little resin, there won't be any of those satisfying scenes where I pour large amounts of resin.

And sadly, there won't be those magical moments of peeling acrylic panels away after the resin has cured either. 😂

I'm honestly curious myself what kind of YouTube video this project will become.

No matter how beautiful the finished artwork is, if the creative process isn't enjoyable to watch, I feel like I've only done half my job as a YouTube creator.

Finding a way to make this slow, repetitive process enjoyable for viewers may end up being the biggest challenge of this entire project.

Since many of you enjoyed the photos around my home in my last post, I took a few more this time.

It happened to be raining that day.

Actually... I love taking walks in a light rain without an umbrella.

Whenever I tell people that, they usually look at me as if they've just discovered some strange new species, so I don't mention it very often. 😂

Unfortunately, I had my camera with me this time, so I had no choice but to bring an umbrella.

I love the smell of rain, the warm humid air, and the way wet leaves sparkle after a shower.

I also love finding tiny frogs and snails along the roadside after it rains.

And although it's quite rare, one of my favorite things in the world is a sunshower—when the sun is shining while it's raining. I don't really know why... I just love it. 😂

For a while longer, I'll continue making these miniature buildings from plastic sheets.

I still don't have nearly enough of them.

Many, many more are needed.

So my next update may look very similar to this one—a rather quiet diary of tiny buildings and slow progress.

But I hope you'll continue following the journey.

『地味だけれど大切な工程』

会員の皆さま、こんにちは✨

現在までの進捗状況をご報告させていただきます。

前回のブログでお伝えしたとおり、今も船に取り付けるパーツを作り続けています。

写真に写っているのが、そのパーツです。
窓のある建物のミニチュアを、ひたすら制作しています。

プラ板を切り、研磨し、接着して建物を作る。
その繰り返しです。

新しい作業部屋に電動のテーブルサンダーを設置したことで、作業は格段にやりやすくなりました。

以前は、家の隣にあるガレージにテーブルサンダーを置いていたため、使用するたびに一度家を出て、ガレージまで移動する必要がありました。

パーツのサイズを微調整するために、家の2階にある作業部屋とガレージを何度も往復する。
以前は、そんなことをしていました。

家の階段を一日に何十回も上り下りするので、途中で足がつりそうになることもよくありました（笑）。

今後はテーブルサンダーに加えて、作業部屋に「電動糸のこ盤」も設置し、部屋の中で小さな木材を加工できるようにしたいと考えています。


それにしても、建物のミニチュア作りは楽しいです。

楽しいのですが、制作の様子がとても地味なので、動画でもブログでも「あまり見栄えがしない」ということに気付きました。

パーツ一つひとつのデザインは違っていても、作り方そのものに大きな違いはありません。

時間がかかる作業のわりに、苦労が見えにくいというか、なかなか伝わりにくい気がするのです。

プラ板をほんの0.5ミリずつ削りながら、サイズを調整する。
そうした地道な作業の繰り返しです。

ダイナミックな動きなどは、まったくありません、笑

今回はレジンもほとんど使わないため、大量のレジンを注ぐシーンもありません。

レジンが硬化したあとにアクリル板をはがす、あの楽しいひとときもありません、笑

今作はいったい、どのような動画になるのでしょうか。

完成品がどれほど素晴らしくても、制作過程が楽しそうに見えなければ、YouTubeでは半人前です。

この単調な作業工程を、どう工夫すれば楽しく視聴していただけるのか。

それが今作における、いちばんの課題かもしれません。


前回のブログで我が家周辺の写真がなかなか好評だったので、今回も少し撮影してみました。

この日は雨が降っていました。

実は私は、小雨の中を傘を差さずに散歩するのが好きなんです。

ただ、このことを誰かに話すと、みんな珍獣を見るような怪訝な顔をするので、あまり人には言いません（笑）

この日はカメラを持っていたので、濡らさないように仕方なく傘を差しましたけれども。

私は雨の匂いや、あたたかく湿った空気、雨に濡れて輝く草木の葉が好きです。

雨の日の道ばたに現れる、小さなアマガエルやカタツムリも好きです。

また、めったにありませんが、晴れているのに雨が降る、いわゆる「天気雨」がたまらなく好きなのです😄

これからしばらくの間は、プラ板を使った小さな建物のミニチュアを作り続ける予定です。

このパーツは、まだまだ数が足りません。
もっとたくさんのミニチュアが必要です。

そのため、次回の更新もあまり変わり映えのしない、地味な制作日記になるかもしれません。

"The Piano and My New Workspace"

Hello everyone,

I’ve been working on renovating my new workspace.
I removed the old carpet from the floor and replaced it with thin, tile-style carpet.
Each tile is 50 cm × 50 cm, and I laid about 100 of them across the room.
They are affordable, and even if I spill paint, I can simply replace the stained tiles, which makes them very economical.

I also replaced the curtains with gray ones to match the color of the walls.

Although it doesn’t appear in the photos, there was an upright piano in the room.
It was something my younger brother and I used when we were children.

I started learning the piano at the age of three.

Once a week, a piano teacher would visit our home to check my progress and guide me.

When I was young, I practiced classical pieces diligently, just as my teacher instructed.
However, as I grew older, I began to find method books like Burgmüller and Czerny rather boring.
Now I can appreciate the beauty of classical music to some extent, but back then, it simply felt tedious to me.

So I secretly went to a store and bought sheet music of artists I liked, such as Billy Joel, Richard Clayderman, and Stevie Wonder, and started playing whatever I wanted.
At the same time, I gradually neglected my classical practice, and my teacher began to sigh more often.

One day, she found out and said, “Oh dear… well then, forget about classical music. Practice the songs you like—I’ll teach you.”
From that day on, she taught me Stevie Wonder’s “Overjoyed” (laughs).

Playing the music I loved, in my own way, suited me perfectly.
After school, I would play the piano and sing songs like “Just the Way You Are” at the top of my lungs (laughs).
Since my house is deep in the countryside, no matter how loudly I sang, the neighbors couldn’t hear me.

I also tried composing music.
Of course, I had no understanding of music theory, so I just played whatever came to mind.
Even when I created something I liked, I was too embarrassed to share it with anyone (laughs).

Perhaps because of that, my piano skills never improved very much.
Even so, I still love the sound of the piano, which is why many of the pieces used in my videos feature piano music.
Someday, I hope to use music that I compose myself in my videos.

As part of this move, I needed to relocate the piano to the next room.
It holds many memories, but I had to make space for materials and tool shelves, so I had no choice but to move it.

I tried to lift the piano carefully, but before I could, my back and waist protested loudly.
I couldn’t even lift one side of the upright piano by myself.
After looking it up, I learned it weighs nearly 300 kilograms—no wonder I couldn’t move it.

In the end, with the help of a friend who lives nearby, I finally managed to move it into the next room.

So, it may take a little longer before I can share the next progress update.
I’m eager to resume my work, but I would greatly appreciate your patience a little while longer.
I will do my best to finish setting up the room as soon as possible.

＜ピアノと、新しい作業部屋＞
　
こんにちは。

新しい作業部屋の改装を進めています。
床の古いじゅうたんをはがし、薄いタイル状のカーペットを敷きました。
このタイルカーペットは1枚が50cm×50cmの大きさで、全部で100枚ほど敷き詰めています。
価格も手ごろで、もし絵の具をこぼしてしまっても、汚れた部分だけを交換できるので、とても経済的です。

カーテンは、壁の色に合わせてグレーのものに交換しました。

画像には写っていませんが、部屋にはアップライトピアノが1台ありました。
これは、私と弟が幼いころに使っていたものです。

私は3歳からピアノを習い始めました。

週に1回、ピアノの先生が家に来てくださり、練習の成果を見て指導してくださいました。

幼いころは先生の指示どおり、まじめにクラシックの課題曲を練習していました。
しかし成長するにつれて、教本であるブルグミュラーやツェルニーを退屈に感じるようになってしまいました。
クラシックの素晴らしさは、今では多少理解できるのですが、当時の私にはどうしても退屈に感じられたのです。

そこで私はこっそりお店へ行き、好きだったビリー・ジョエルやリチャード・クレイダーマン、スティービー・ワンダーの楽譜を買ってきて、好き勝手に弾くようになりました。
その一方で、クラシックの練習はだんだんとおろそかになり、先生がため息をつくことも増えていきました。

ある日そのことが先生にバレてしまい、「しょうがない人ね。それならクラシックはもういいから、好きな曲を練習しなさい。教えてあげるから」と言われました。
その日から私は、スティービー・ワンダーの 「 Overjoyed 」 を先生に教えていただくことになりました（笑）。

好きな曲を好きなように弾くことが、私の性に合っていたのだと思います。
学校から帰ると毎日のようにピアノを弾きながら、「Just the Way You Are」などの曲を大きな声で歌っていました（笑）。
私の家はかなりの田舎にあるため、どれだけ大声で歌っても近所に聞こえることはありません。

作曲もしていました。
もちろん音楽理論などはまったく理解していなかったので、ただ好きなように鍵盤をたたいていただけですが、気に入った曲ができても恥ずかしくて誰かに聴かせることはできませんでした（笑）。

そんな日々を過ごしていたせいか、ピアノの腕前は最後まであまり上達しませんでした。
それでもピアノの音色は今でも大好きで、私の動画にピアノ曲が多く使われているのはそのためです。
いつか自分で作った曲を、自分の動画に使ってみたいという夢もあります。

今回の引っ越しにあたり、このピアノを隣の部屋へ移動させる必要がありました。
思い入れのあるピアノではありましたが、材料や工具棚を設置するスペースを確保するため、やむを得ず移動させることにしました。

ピアノをそっと持ち上げようとしましたが、その前に腰と背中が悲鳴を上げました。
私ひとりの力では、アップライトピアノの片側すら持ち上げることができません。
調べてみると、ピアノの重さは300kg近くあるとのこと。どうりで持ち上がらないわけです。

最終的には、近所に住む友人の力を借りて、ようやく隣の部屋へ移動させることができました。

そんなわけで、制作の進捗報告はもう少し先になりそうです。
早く制作を再開したい気持ちはあるのですが、もう少しだけお待ちいただけるとうれしいです。
できるだけ早く、部屋の改装を終えたいと思っています。
