DOE, SM launch weekly "O.N.E. Hour" to make energy saving a lifestyle
The Department of Energy (DOE) and SM Supermalls launched the O.N.E. Hour Challenge, urging households, businesses, and malls to switch off non- essential lights and appliances every Saturday from 8-9 pm. Energy Secretary Sharon S.Garin led the Mall of Asia launch, with the MOA Globe as the campaign's symbolic centerpiece.
"Energy saving should not feel like sacrifice. It should become part of how we live - how we care for our homes, our families, and our country," Sec. Garin said. DOE cited Earth Hour 2026, when deman fell by 145.43 MW in one hour, and said 212 malls have saved over 51,000 MWh ( est P614M); practical tips include switching off non-essential lights, unplugging standby devices, and setting ACs to 24-25°C.
