*Jammu Police Foils Illegal Bovine Smuggling Bid; Rescues 09 Bovines in Bishnah*

Jammu, 12 July 2026:

In a major crackdown on illegal bovine smuggling, Police Station Bishnah achieved a significant success by rescuing 09 bovine animals and seizing a specially modified tractor-trolley used for their illegal transportation.

During routine patrolling on 12 July 2026, a police team of Police Station Bishnah was conducting area domination on the Ring Road and adjoining areas. At Chak Avtara, Bishnah, the team noticed a tractor-trolley without registration number plates proceeding from Vijaypur towards Jammu.

On noticing the police presence, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled from the spot, leaving the tractor-trolley behind. During inspection, the police found that the trolley had been specially engineered with a concealed cavity which was camouflage the hidden compartment and evade detection.

On opening the concealed compartment, the police rescued 09 bovine animals (02 cows and 07 oxen) that had been crammed into the cavity in an unconscious and highly distressed condition. The animals were found tied with ropes in a cruel and inhumane manner, overloaded, and transported without food or water. Preliminary inquiry also revealed that the bovines were being transported without the mandatory permission of the District Magistrate, in violation of the law.

The rescued animals were immediately shifted to a safe location for proper care and protection. The tractor-trolley and wooden logs used in the commission of the offence have been seized. A case has been registered at Police Station Bishnah under the relevant provisions of law, and intensive efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the absconding driver and all other persons involved in the illegal smuggling network.

Jammu Police remains committed to curbing illegal bovine smuggling, safeguarding animal welfare, and taking strict legal action against offenders. Citizens are requested to report any suspicious movement of vehicles carrying animals or any other unlawful activity to the nearest police station or through ERSS-112.
