Day 3 Post: Changing the Developer Mindset
Saturday raat hai aur probably aap chill ya relax kar rahe honge. Ekdum sahi hai. But let me leave one thought with you before you fully switch off for the weekend.
Kaafi developers ko lagta hai ki they need a new job, a bigger company ya some fancy greenfield project to start thinking like an architect. Bhai aisa bilkul nahi hai.. you can start right where you are from Monday morning.
Kaise Karna Hai?
Next time you are doing a code review, do not just check if the code/syntax works. Kuch questions pucho:
What happens when this gets called 10,000 times at once?
What if the database slows down completely?
What if the third party API this depends on just goes down?
Log bolenge tum negative ho rahe ho. But you are not being negative. You are thinking in failure modes and that is exactly what architects do. We do not just design for the happy path. We design for time when things can go wrong kyunki production mein things always go wrong.
This weekend just observe. Look at any system around you, your own project or an app you use daily. Ask yourself where the single point of failure is. Agar load achanak badh gaya to sabse pehle kya fatega?
You do not need to fix anything. Just observe. A good architect is a trained observer first.
