The Wise Soules

Hey! We wanted to acknowledge that it's been a minute since we've posted on this channel. Long story short, we've been dealing with some health issues with a couple members of our family. We have not abandoned ship! We plan to be back very, very soon!

The Wise Soules

A lot has been said about yesterday’s attempted assassination of Donald Trump, but we’d like to give you something deeper to ponder than what you may be hearing from others. Consider this…

On June 16, 2015, Trump announced his first run for the presidency. Almost immediately he was belittled by the mainstream media. Very quickly, as he gained momentum, he was vilified. Once he won, he was christened the new Hitler.

That was the beginning. The beginning of nine years now of hatred for the man. Nine years of a constant onslaught from his political opponents. An onslaught unlike anything ever seen. It has come from all directions. All angles. All possible sources.

Americans can argue his policies and his character, and in fact that’s a healthy debate if done in good faith. What we personally cannot accept is the idea of rallying half the country to the idea that the man is the devil. He’s not. He’s not a threat to our “democracy” either. Lest we forget, the man has already been president. We know exactly what it looks like, and you know, it wasn’t so bad.

Now, here’s the deeper point we’d like you to consider. The shooter was a 20-year-old young man. He was only 11 when mainstream media began its nonstop campaign against Trump. Think about that. A young man, with an impressionable mind that still was not fully developed when he died yesterday, was exposed non-stop to hatred for one man. He saw it from traditional media sources, social media, newspapers, magazines, and billboards. He saw it from actors, comedians, and local personalities. He saw it teachers, caregivers, and community leaders. He saw it from friends, neighbors, and likely members of his own family.

What exactly would any reasonable person believe could happen to a young mind inundated with such rhetoric? Yes, many such minds will learn to hate but never act upon it. But as we learned yesterday, it only takes one such person to act upon that hate. Luckily, we missed our country forever changing by a couple of centimeters.

So, think about this. We’ve spent nine years training young minds to hate. We’ve done great damage to a generation of young people. And for what? Because we didn’t like his policies or mean tweets? That’s very weak reasoning for the damage we’ve done. A couple of centimeters and this country would look very different today, and likely not in a good way.

What do we do about this? First, if you have such hate in your heart, you need to let it go. Your hate is not keeping you warm. It’s eating you from the inside out. Second, if you have children, it’s time to teach and/or reinforce that you can agree or disagree with a man’s ideas, but spewing lies about him and spreading hatred will not end well. Such behavior is simply an evil that consumes all. Yes, an evil. A far deeper evil than anyone claims Trump to be.

Is it too late for us? Honestly, we don’t know. We’re so far down a dangerous road it’s hard to see the path back. Perhaps the events of yesterday will reset us. We are hopeful, but experience gives us pause. What we will be doing, and what we encourage you to do, is pray. Pray for God’s wisdom and guidance. May He forgive us and protect us.

We’ll have more to say on tomorrow’s live show at 10pm eastern, 7pm pacific. Please join us then.

We just wanted to give a huge, heartfelt thank you to our new friends in El Salvador. During a segment last week we discussed your president, Nayib Bukele. Your positive response to that segment means a lot to us. Thank you as well to all of you who subscribed off that segment!

In our view, you've got a leader to be proud of and a country headed in the right direction. We wish you all the best, and we hope to see you during our live shows!

The Wise Soules

Hey everyone!

We’re back, but we’ll be a bit different. Please read on…

About two years ago I started The Soule of Wisdom. My goal was to engage in discussion on a wide range of topics that are important in today’s world. It was going ok, and we were growing. And then, about a year ago, I suddenly stopped.

Why? Truthfully, something was missing. Something was bothering me. The channel was well received and growing, but I was troubled by something that I could not fully define, so I took some time to figure it out.

After reflection, my conclusion was this: As humans, we’re losing the art of true debate and discussion. All too often we’re in tribes, and if someone isn’t in your tribe, then you are unlikely to hear them out. We need to revive the ability to hear each other and learn from different viewpoints, even if in the end we don’t agree. It’s perfectly ok to not agree. Not listening though is far from ok.

Further, when I began to ask myself how we all got to this point, my conclusion was that the root of the problem lies at the family level. Families don’t get together and talk like they used to. The dinner table is an almost dead idea. Frankly, that’s beyond scary to me. If we don’t have family discussions, then we’re not teaching our children how to listen, debate, and learn from that interaction. If that goes on long enough, debate and discussion will truly be a lost art.

With that in mind, I’ve decided to get back on the horse and continue with this channel, but in a way that models family discussion. My hope is that the more people who see it, the more people will try to emulate it in their own homes.

So, The Soule of Wisdom is now The Wise Soules. It’s a family affair now. My wife, Beth, and our teenage son, Eli, will join me for discussion and debate on a wide range of topics that apply to our world today. Whether it be news, politics, pop culture, or anything else, the goal will be to debate topics and learn as a family. We may agree on things. We may disagree. And either way, it’s ok, because we’ll be communicating as a family.

And you’re invited to our table! Our discussions will be broadcast live on YouTube every Monday and Wednesday at 10pm Eastern, 7pm Pacific. We’d love for you to join, interact with us in chat, and share your thoughts and opinions.

Since we’ll be live, we’ll be working without a net. The discussions will be raw and real (plus Beth and Eli will not know ahead of time what topics we’ll be covering.) We want to be authentic because any true family discussion would be.

Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you on the lives 😊
