Welcome to Hannah Morris Bouldering. Here you'll find bouldering content, climbing coaching videos, indoor bouldering sessions and climbing films sharing my passion for climbing.
Mad Rock Climbing UK have given me the code HANNAHMORRIS20 to share for 20% off the Mad Rock UK website: for first 20 people who use it!
For full transparency, we started working with @madrockclimbing in 2024, so technically, this is considered advertising. ☺️
We do genuinely feel excited to have found a shoe brand that we enjoy repping so much - you’ll have seen the D2.ONE's and Sharks getting a lot of love on the channel over the years.
We’re really looking forward to our UK based friends getting to try them out.
I’ve been filming bits and pieces over the last few months, but I haven’t posted many leg updates here otherwise. For context, I had a climbing accident in September & sustained crush injuries to my leg and ankle.
After 4 weeks in the US, in October I was referred to an Orthopaedic team to begin recovery in the UK. Each hospital visit changed the picture but I didn’t leave many with good news. The optimist in me hoped it was just around the corner.
In November, I was referred to a regional specialist & got the news I’d been dreading. Due to bone loss in my tibia, I’d struggle to restore full function without a leg reconstruction. I was a candidate for bone transport, a limb salvage surgery that would remove parts of my lower leg bone and slowly relocate healthy tibia. Fun online reading if you’re into that!
Ultimately, I chose to defer reconstruction in November & here I am 5 months later, trying to grow back my leg bone without more surgery. I’ve questioned that decision endlessly. Whether my delusion to try and outrun that procedure was desperate or shortsighted. I wonder if that was the junction at which something began to erode at me more entirely. I’ve been somewhere else these last few months. Not really sure of much, except that I’ll get back up, and even then only sometimes.
It’s still not clear what the next steps will look like or if bone transport will be needed but my choice feels like it was the right one with hindsight. At every turn, my commitment to climbing stronger than before hasn’t wavered and with some milestones and improvements in my pocket I feel mostly positive about the road ahead. It’s been the biggest hurdle I’ve encountered but the most formative of my life, but I’m trying to find the silver linings where I can. Pull ups have never been better. Fingers have never been stronger. Finding more reasons to feel proud of myself. Still love climbing. Grateful to @madrockclimbing and @mammut for the support. I’ll be sharing a big video as part of my recovery series soon 🦣🩰🎈
I’m back from a short YouTube hiatus this weekend, and we’re kicking things back off with a bit of a banger. If watching @ShaunaCoxseyClimber and Kitty Morrison crushing in CWIF semis this afternoon isn’t enough, you can top up the psyche levels and watch them set and siege the hardest boulder at @theclimbinghangaruk too! 8B+ mega boulders never looked so good.
Even though climbing looks a bit different for me at the moment, it’s been such a important goal for me to keep connected to climbing through making videos for HMB and I really can’t overstate how much I appreciate the support and patience as I work to find my feet.
Hiiiii all, I've been really blown away by the response to my injury story and wanted to say thank you.
The comments of support and well wishes over the last week have been such a boost. I've reading every single comment and IG message. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for taking the time to watch, and reach out with well wishes and positive stories of recovery. I haven’t been able to respond to all of them, but I do truly appreciate the kindness and feel so appreciative of the climbing community.
Photo from standing on my own two feet (see you later for now, crutches!) a couple of weeks ago!!!! It's been up and down and twisty and turny, but I'm really looking forward to sharing the recovery journey here in time. x
YouTube recently rolled out a new community feature - I THINK it means that as well as me posting updates on the community tab, you can now share thoughts, questions, reflections and suggestions in your own posts here.
It would be super cool to be able to use this feature as a space that people can be a part of and contribute to - I’d love to hear from you, share psyche, sends, tips and general climbing hype.
I’ll be posting here some more with behind-the-scenes bits over the next few weeks - feel free to share here too! I’d love to see your posts.
I finally got to wear in the @madrockclimbing D2.ONE and wanted to share my thoughts. For context, I've been out of the bouldering game for a few months with injury, but now I'm backkkkk I've been able to try out the newest addition to the Drone family. Mad Rock didn't ask me to post about them, but I am an ambassador - just an FYI for disclosure! :)
I started my Mad Rock shoe journey in the CS and LOVE them, but I switched to the Shark 3.0 last year for comfort and sensitivity - they're one of the softer shoes in the MR line.
Gotta say though, I'm really enjoying the D2.ONES - main things I notice is they offer a little more power and support than the Shark 3.0 and the CS and I do notice that on steeper stuff and tiny foot holds. Haven't tried them outdoors yet, but excited to!
I wear the same size as my street shoe and find that's just about right - could maaaaaaybe squeeze down a half size, but if you like comfy life me, bang on is great.
It’s a good day at HMB HQ - I found out this morning we’ve been nominated for a creator award.
The ITV bCreator Awards is a national award that celebrates creators and agencies across the UK, and I’m really thrilled to have made the shortlist in the health and wellness category, alongside some really incredible creators.
Public voting is open, so if you've enjoyed videos here on the channel and would like to vote, I'd be very grateful for the support!
After a brief intermission in the video schedule, we're back this weekend with a video we've been working on since November last year.
This project was a special one for me, and it taught me some important lessons in self-belief, composure and the importance of being nice to yourself in the pursuit of your goals.
Working with an ace team to step up our production for this video was such a rich learning experience too. I really do love producing climbing stories for YouTube, and even more so with input from others - some special guests and cameos in this one for you.
Sorry for the slower video cadence lately! I took some time out to unwind in Fontainebleau and I’m leaving feeling a bit more stitched together. Slowly making my way home via a couple of filming pit-stops - keep an eye out for a couple of question boxes for upcoming guests in the next few days! 🫶🌳🪨
The folks at @madrockclimbing have just announced that they’ll be keeping prices locked, despite tariff related price increases across the industry. It’s been a joy to work with Mad Rock over the last couple of years - they’ve shown time and time again that they’re doing things right in the brand space, so if you’re in the market for some newies, go gettem’! You can use code HMBFREE for free shipping to the UK also. ❤️🔥
