In 1961, a former general from Hitler’s army became chairman of NATO’s Military Committee.

His name was Adolf Heusinger.

During the war, he had helped run German operations on the Eastern Front.

This contradiction is one of the reasons I started writing my book.

New video is now online. In January 1945, German engineers tried to erase Hitler’s Wolf’s Lair from the map. The bunkers survived the explosions, the Red Army arrived days later, and the site became one of the strangest ruins of the Second World War — mined, stripped, rebuilt into something else, and eventually opened to tourists.

Decades later, the forest was still giving up secrets.
