What advice would your 80-year-old self give you today?

I recently completed the 8-part series Advice to My 20-Year-Old Self and found myself asking a different question:

What wisdom might my future self have for me now?

That question became the beginning of a new series:

Advice from My 80-Year-Old Self

Part 1 is titled:

Deus Juvat — God Assists

A reflection on faith, trust, Divine timing, and the unseen ways life supports us, even through the challenges we don't initially understand.

I've included a short audio reading from the opening of the letter below.

If it resonates, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Most men don't need more information.

They need a better relationship with their emotions.

You can read every book. Listen to every podcast. Watch every motivational video.

But if shame controls your choices... If fear dictates your actions... If anger clouds your judgment...

Knowledge alone won't change your life.
Awareness is where transformation begins.
The strongest men I've met aren't emotionless.
They're emotionally aware.

They can recognize what they're feeling without becoming consumed by it.
They pause. They reflect. They respond instead of react.
That's emotional intelligence.

And like any skill, it can be developed.
One moment of awareness at a time.

What emotion has been your greatest teacher?
Fear, shame, anger, grief, gratitude, love, or something else?

How much do you trust yourself?

Self-trust isn't built through motivation.

It's built through keeping your word.

Every time you follow through on something you said you would do, you strengthen the relationship you have with yourself.

Every time you don't, a little doubt creeps in.

My newest Integration Piece explores practical ways to build stronger integrity, self-respect, and alignment in everyday life.

Free readers can read the introduction and reflection.

Paid subscribers receive the complete integration practices and journal exercises.

Most people focus on outcomes.

Lose the weight.
Build the business.
Find the relationship.
Make more money.

A smaller group focuses on systems.

Daily habits.
Morning routines.
Better processes.

But the deepest level of change happens at the level of identity.

Who are you becoming?

Every action you take is a vote for that person.

Not because you are trying to become them someday.

Because you are choosing to embody them today.

A writer writes.

A runner runs.

A musician makes music.

A mindful person practices awareness.

The challenge isn't that most people lack potential.

The challenge is that most people spend more time doubting their future than imagining it.

They focus on the gap between where they are and where they want to be.

Instead of aligning with the person they are becoming.

The vision comes first.

The habits become evidence.

The identity emerges through repetition.

When you lose your way, don't focus on the setback.

Realign with your True North.

Then cast another vote.

Who are you becoming?

For a long time, I thought being a man meant being strong all the time.

Push through.
Figure it out yourself.
Keep moving.
Don't let anyone see you struggle.

But life has taught me something different.

Real strength isn't the absence of emotion.

It's the ability to face what you're feeling without running from it.

Many men today are caught between two extremes.

One side tells us to suppress our emotions and become harder.

The other tells us to live entirely in our emotions.

Neither feels complete.

I've found the greatest growth comes from learning to integrate both.

Strength and compassion.

Discipline and play.

Logic and intuition.

The masculine and feminine.

The sun and the moon.

The warrior and the healer.

The heart sits in the middle.

It is the bridge between the physical and the spiritual.
Between who we are and who we are becoming.

The loneliest periods of my life taught me that vulnerability is not weakness.

It's emotional intelligence.

It's honesty.

It's the courage to tell the truth about where you are so you can move toward where you want to be.

The goal isn't to become emotionless.

The goal is to become whole.

What has life taught you about strength?

👇 I'd love to hear your thoughts.

When you are guided by a vision that truly moves you, obstacles stop feeling like roadblocks.

They become stepping stones.

The path may not be straight.
The challenges don't disappear.
But each lesson, setback, and detour becomes part of the journey.

Authentic Alpha began as a vision.

A vision of helping people connect more deeply to mind, body, and spirit.

Since then, there have been countless twists and turns. Unexpected opportunities. Difficult lessons. Moments of doubt. Moments of growth.

Looking back, many of the obstacles I once resisted became some of my greatest teachers.

I've come to believe that the outer world reflects the inner one.

What we create externally often begins as a vision, a feeling, a belief, or an image held within.

The outer world is the shadow.

The inner world is the substance.

Everything begins in the imagination.

A vision imagined vividly enough starts to influence our actions, our decisions, and the direction of our lives. We begin moving toward it long before it physically arrives.

And perhaps that's part of the beauty of life.

The vision expands.
We expand.
The journey continues.

What once felt impossible becomes possible.

What once felt distant becomes present.

And new horizons emerge.

What vision are you nurturing right now?

And if you're feeling called to create a clearer vision for your life, health, purpose, or future, I'd be honored to support you.

Sometimes all it takes is a conversation, a fresh perspective, or someone who can help you see what's already possible.

Is evil the absence of light?

One idea from the Gnostics is that evil isn't a force in itself. It is what happens when we become separated from the light.

Imagine a candle.

Close to the flame, you can read the book clearly. Move farther and farther away, and eventually darkness prevents you from seeing.

The light never disappeared.

You simply moved away from it.

Perhaps the same is true within ourselves.

When we become lost in fear, division, resentment, or pure materialism, we can forget our connection to something greater. We forget the light within.

The answer is not condemnation.

The answer is remembrance.

To turn toward the light.
To free the light within ourselves.
To recognize that beneath all separation, there is connection.

For me, the path is not rejecting the world.

It is bringing more light into it.

Mind.
Body.
Spirit.

One step at a time.

How do we arrive at the Way?

I came across a passage that stayed with me.

A seeker asked how he would arrive at the Way.

The answer was simple:

• Trust
• Certainty
• Patience
• Resolution
• Veracity

Truthfulness.

For me, the Way is the middle path.

Not too far to one extreme.
Not too far to the other.

A continual dance of balance.

Balancing action with rest.
Strength with compassion.
Mind with body.
Body with spirit.

The Way looks different for each of us.

Each person walks a unique path.

Yet these qualities seem universal.

Trust the process.
Be patient.
Stay true.
Keep walking.

Perhaps the Way is not a destination at all.

Perhaps the Way is how we walk.

One step at a time.
