Black Sweater Talk is where real stories meet relentless growth.

I’m Marcus Lopés—a writer, storyteller, and creative who believes in doing the work, becoming who the journey demands, and telling the truth even when it hurts.

Here, we talk about the work (showing up when it’s hard), the becoming (finding purpose through struggle), and the truth (owning your story without apology).

You’ll find short motivational stories about resilience, self-discovery, and transformation—no fluff, hype, or clichés. Because change isn’t easy—but it’s also where freedom begins.

If you’re rebuilding, redefining yourself, or learning to trust your voice again—you’re not alone.

Subscribe to Black Sweater Talk and join a community that’s not chasing perfection, but becoming who they were meant to be.

Because we’re not done yet—our greatest stories are still being written.

Marcus Lopés

I am a writer.

Over the past 30 days, I silenced everything—YouTube, streaming services, motivational and self-help books. It was more than a social media time out or detox.

I needed to get back to myself. To writing. To doing the things that mattered most.

It’s not easy sitting in that kind of silence—when the only things you have to face are yourself, your thoughts, and the work.

And living through that stillness—as uncomfortable as it was at times—reminded me that I am, above all, a writer. It showed me that I had to stop running away from writing by overtraining and producing YouTube videos. In a word, I had to stop anything that pulled me away from the work that, to me, mattered most. Writing.

So, it’s time to ensure that everything I do is aligned with being a writer and doesn’t detract from it. Because you can either invest your time in watching other people build their dreams or in building your own. Either way, it’s time you never get back.

My hope—for me and for you—is that we don’t waste any more time. Life is short, so make it count.

Maybe you think you have all the time in the world. Let me reframe time for you. The last season of Big Brother (a show I don’t watch but millions of people do) consisted of 39 episodes. If you watched all of Big Brother 27, you spent approximately 45 hours (commercials included) in front of a screen. Look at it this way: you gave up almost two full days of your life (that you’ll never get back) to that show. But what if you’re also into shows like Project Runway or Bachelor in Paradise or Alone? How much more of your precious time did you give away? You prioritized watching other people’s drama over your own dreams and ambitions.

The greatest tragedy would be to not live the life we want for ourselves, or at least to not try.

I’m going to try.

So, today I just want to say thank you for being a part of Black Sweater Talk. But it’s time for me to let it go, to focus on the thing that enlivens my soul: writing. For all who tuned in, I hope you felt a gentle nudge to keep showing up for yourself and your dreams.

May we all follow Polonius’s advice: “This above all: to thine own self be true, and it shall follow, as the night the day, that thou canst not then be false to any man.”
