The Apis mellifera scutellata subspecies is often referred to as "killer bees" due to their highly defensive nature. They are known to aggressively protect their nests and can pursue intruders up to 100s of meters away. This behaviour is important for beekeepers and the public alike to be aware of, as it poses risks of severe stings and can lead to death.
