Kalita Majhi went from washing dishes for ₹2,500 a month to becoming a state minister in West Bengal Cabinet under the Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. For over 20 years, she worked as a domestic helper, cleaning houses in Guskara to support her family and her son’s education. Her husband worked as a day labourer, and together they faced deep financial hardship.Despite her circumstances, she stayed deeply connected to her community. After a defeat in 2021, she continued her grassroots work and won the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election in a BJP ticket. Her journey culminated on June 1, 2026, when she officially took her oath as a minister in the state government.
