Happy big big 5th birthday to my sweetest, kindest and the most gentle soul Ekko! Getting Ekko was the best gift we could have recieved in this life 🥹

Last year especially was absolutely incredible and we hope to have many more ahead of us, at least 30! Ekko, my souldog, my best friend please stay healthy for a long long time so we can conquer many more mountain peaks together!

❣️Does my australian shepherd need a jacket for winter?
Yes and no! A well bred healthy aussie should not need a coat due to their weather resistant and very thick coat, however it will depend on the dogs age and condition.

Ekko has a stage II LTV diagnosis on his spine that is causing him stiffness and pain in his back, especially in certain weather conditions. Whenever its windy, damp and moist his back can stiffen and cause him even more discomfort. Also whenever we are doing a longer hike and make a stop in between is a good time to put it because his muscles get cold when staying still. Ekko also need longer time than average dog to warm back up his muscles.

Sometimes I wont put anything on him during our sunny walk on -10 but I will put a jacket on him when its +5 moist and its a cold wind out there. Of course its not going to be an extremely thick one, he definitely does not need that at age of 5, but a very thin waterproof one.

Hugo is not my dog but he has far from Ekko’s coats thickness and density but hes healthy so he does not need a jacket.
Every dog is different ;)
