Quick one.

I'm deep in a GTA Online project and it turns out some of these missions need actual human beings to complete them. Revolutionary concept. If you're on PS5 and fancy running some jobs together, add PatientWolfGames. I'm methodical, I don't grief, and I won't quit on the Fleeca Job with thirty seconds left. Unlike some people.

I'll be looking to record lots of jobs this week and next throughout the day UK time

What's next?

The Story of GTA V has been live for a week now, and thank you to everyone who's taken the time with it. The comments have been a joy to read.
Now it's time to talk about what's next.

We're about five months out from Rockstar's release of GTA 6, and I'll be there to cover it as best I can. As always, I'll be ridiculously behind the curve. There'll be so much content from every corner of the internet, stories, secrets, hot takes, but I'll be taking my time with it. The main story first, but also the smaller ones that will inevitably live in the world around it. Those quieter ones are often my favourite.

Before then though, there are 2 or 3 projects I want to get out to fill the gap before the first GTA 6 video lands.

The first is The Ballad of Gay Tony. The video is written and just needs editing and polish. Despite being a DLC, I've managed to turn this one into a monster — well over an hour, nearly as long as the GTA IV story itself. Gay Tony has a lot of strands running through it, and it made sense to house the story of The Diamonds in there too. It all ties together.

The second, and more importantly, is keeping the Assassin's Creed cadence going. Right after this post I’ll be working on The Story of AC Syndicate, that will be made available to Patrons and members first, and at that point I'll finally release The Story of AC Unity to everyone else. Many of you have been asking where in the hell that one's been for over a year now, and I'm sorry it's taken so long.

As you read this I'll be playing through Syndicate and recording, before moving into organising and scripting. It's a big game, but not GTA V big. That one came in at 300 hours in productions time. Syndicate should sit somewhere around 250. I can't tell you exactly when those hours will be done, but I'll work as fast as I can.

Third…..? My eyes are bigger than my capacity to produce, as always. I'm keen to start covering a new franchise, which is probably a ridiculous thing to say given I haven't finished the ones I'm already in. But there are a few worlds I'm genuinely excited about retelling. I won't name them yet because I don't want to promise something I can't deliver on, but I am curious what you'd want to see. Let me know in the comments and I'll see if there's any crossover with where my head's at.

Thank you for your patience. I can't wait for you to see them.

Drop a comment on what you have been enjoying on the channel in recent years and what you’d like to see in the future.

There have been quite a few comments on my GTA5 video from people asking for the stories within GTA Online. Just wanted to gauge the appetite for this.

Would you like to see the story of GTA online

DIRECTOR'S NOTES — The Story of GTA V

I was very nervous about starting this video, and after topping out at 300 hours in production, that apprehension was justified. It caused many headaches, especially at the start of the scriptwriting process. Which character do I start with?

Every other game I've covered has a single thread to follow. GTA V gives you three, and they don't always pull in the same direction. A lot of time in the edit was spent figuring out how to move between Michael, Franklin and Trevor without losing the rhythm of any of them. Kind of how it is playing the game, the story forces you to certain characters at key plot points, but outside the main missions you have to pick your poison. The choice I had was how to best develop the characters before that switch was made.

Michael's story is the one I'm proudest of. He gets flattened into the comedy suburban dad a lot of the time and I don't think that's the full picture. There's a genuine sadness underneath him. The weight of his family, his guilt, the life he built and can't quite live in. It needed careful handling to tease out and it was the hardest work in the video.

Trevor's trauma was really fun to shape. Despite the poverty he chooses to live in, his entrepreneurial ambition is something else. Trevor Phillips Enterprises is going places, for me is the most exciting part of the whole game. In fact, fleshed out Trevor and Sandy Shores could have been an 100 hour game all of its own.

Franklin was the most straightforward to write, and maybe the most relatable. A man without the tools to leave a life he doesn't want anymore. His story came easy. His loyalty to Lamar, his desire to win back Tanisha, were the relics of an old life he was trying to escape. Almost weighing him down. But that's what makes him human. You can want more and still not be able to let go of where you came from.

GTA V is a game I've known for a long time, which cuts both ways. Familiarity makes some things easier. It also makes it harder to see clearly. I kept asking myself what someone coming to this story completely fresh would need, rather than leaning on what I already knew was there.

Anyway. It's done. My longest video, probably my most challenging, but without question the one I've enjoyed making the most. The GTA stories show a lot more than they tell and that kind of storytelling is a dream to work with. There's always something underneath the surface worth pulling out.
Can't wait for GTA 6.
