Daniel Joseph Owen: Redemption has always been an act of the Creator's mercy toward us, while the Torah's role has always been that of a guide, the divine standard for righteousness.

The Torah defines moral behavior. It doesn't redeem wickedness and rebellion; it shines a light on it. That's its job.

In the biblical worldview, sacred spaces were never random locations. Mountains, gardens, trees, and temples all echoed the idea of heaven meeting earth, places where God chose to dwell among humanity. ⛰️🌳📜

Daniel Joseph Owen: In the very same way, Yehovah's commandments exist to protect us from the things that would otherwise harm or destroy us. Yehovah is not sitting atop a cloud waiting for us to make a mistake so that he can strike us down. He is our Maker, our loving Father, and he gave us the Torah for our own protection.

Those concerned with theological and interpretive honesty are compelled by certain commitments: honoring God’s use of real people on the ground, at their own time and place, to produce this thing we say is inspired; interpreting the Bible in its own intellectual context; and taking the primary text as it is, preferring it over translations, acknowledging that the content at times points to editorial activity and arrangement and literary intent.

It’s hard to believe this has no place in many churches that profess to take the Bible seriously. For those who feel called by God to devote their lives and gifts to the academic study of Scripture, pariah status was unexpected. I never thought I’d have to pay a price for sticking to the text, but I have. But I’m used to it now, and am unrepentant.

Has archaeological evidence of the biblical Joseph really been found?
Before sharing viral headlines, we need to examine language, chronology, and the biblical text itself.

Baptism is not what produces salvation. It “saves” us in that it first involves or reflects a heart decision: a pledge of loyalty to the risen Savior. In effect, baptism in New Testament theology is a loyalty oath, a public avowal of who is on the Lord’s side in the cosmic war between good and evil.

But in addition to that, it is also a visceral reminder to the defeated fallen angels. Every baptism is a reiteration of their doom in the wake of the gospel and the kingdom of God. Early Christians understood the typology of this passage and its link back to the fallen angels of Genesis 6. Early baptismal formulas included a renunciation of Satan and his angels for this very reason.

Baptism was — and still is — spiritual warfare.

Daniel Joseph Owen: In Hebrew, the verb *chata* means to miss, as in to go astray. In essence, the word means to miss the mark. In this way, sin can be understood in practical terms as doing something in a way that God did not intend, design, or allow; sin is straying beyond the boundary that the Creator established.

I've said in my own little 60 Second Scholar books that one of the best things I can tell people is, “Look, good Bible study is not following a rote method. It's not jumping through hoops. It's not following a list of ten steps and then spitting out something. There's no substitute for thinking about the text.”

Hopefully, you get into resources, take classes, listen to a podcast, or do something that just helps you think. There's no substitute for thinking in Bible study.
