God’s Glory: The Ultimate Motive for Missions

If God’s glory is not the point, our missions have lost their compass. The Bible insists that all things exist for God’s fame (Rom 11:36; Isa 43:7), and mission is the church’s obedient work to display that glory where it is hidden by sin.

When the gospel goes forth it announces not only forgiveness and new life but the worth of God’s name. Missional theology rooted in Scripture understands evangelism, justice, church planting and discipleship as means by which rebellious hearts are reoriented to worship. This makes missions worship in motion: not a pragmatic program to grow institutions, but a Spirit-led pursuit to see Christ honoured among the nations.

Motivation matters. If our driving force is reputation, budget, comfort, or cultural prestige, we corrupt the very aim of mission. True motivation flows from delight in God — a joy so contagious that it compels sacrifice, cross-cultural patience, and long obedience in the same direction. We send teams not to score converts but to form communities that know and declare God’s worth.

Practically, centring God’s glory reshapes strategy: prayer that asks for God’s name to be magnified; training that makes disciples whose lives point to God; partnerships that serve local churches; measures of success defined by worshipful fruit, not metrics alone. Mission becomes stewardship of God’s magnifying work.

Action
Pray for nations to glorify God; examine your motive and ministry through the lens of God’s glory; support and join efforts that form worshipping communities among the unreached. Let every mission decision answer one question: Will this magnify the worth of our King?

Persecution has never stopped the Gospel. In fact, history shows the very opposite. The Church often grows fastest where the pressure is greatest.

In Acts 8, persecution scattered believers — but wherever they scattered, the Gospel spread like wildfire.

Today, the fastest-growing churches are in Iran, Afghanistan, and China — nations where following Jesus can cost everything. Yet people are coming to Christ in unprecedented numbers.

Nigeria is passing through trials — violence, instability, resistance. But these storms are not a sign that God is absent. They are a sign that the enemy fears what Nigeria is becoming: a missionary-sending country.

Brothers and sisters, let us rise. Persecution doesn’t silence the Church — unless the Church chooses to be silent.

Pray. Give. Go. Mobilise.
