🚨 SLAG HAPPENS HAS FINALLY BEEN RECORDED 🚨

And an official CALL TO ACTION and your chance to see your name included in a future Topherspin Meteorites YouTube video- Keep reading to the end!

After multiple postponements, delays, scheduling chaos and enough slag jokes to last a lifetime… we FINALLY recorded our massive Slag Happens presentation on Wednesday, May 13th. ☄️

Now comes the hard part.

Please be patient as Topher works on the edit in between his day job, helping Sue manage Topherspin Meteorites and spending time with his awesome little family — his wife Sue, the world’s cutest dog Lil’ Butters and our mischievous cat Toasty. We also have our May Rock ID Night coming up on May 20th, which we are hoping to have edited and posted before the end of the month as well.

This is officially the longest segment we have recorded in… honestly, probably YEARS. The raw, pre-edit runtime is WELL over two hours, so this one is going to be an absolute doozy. Thankfully, all of the preparation Sue, Topher and Mike put into the presentation beforehand — along with the many precautions we took during recording — should hopefully help speed up the editing process.

For those of you who were not present during the live recording, we ended the presentation with a special CALL TO ACTION for the entire Knowledge Bolide community. Later this summer, sometime around July, we plan to record a shorter follow-up video covering:

☄️THE TOP TEN ROCKS MOST COMMONLY MISTAKEN FOR METEORITES

Half of these will be slag or slag-adjacent materials, while the other half will focus on naturally occurring terrestrial “meteorwrongs.” We are asking our followers, subscribers, supporters, viewers, customers, crew members — however you are connected to Topherspin Meteorites — to help contribute examples for this future video. We are looking for HIGH QUALITY photos and/or videos of:

• Industrial Slag
• Coal Clinkers
• Hematite Nodules
• Magnetite Rocks
• Iron Concretions
• Basalt Lava
• Furnace Byproducts
• Railroad Ballast Slag
• Pyrite-Rich Rocks
• Manmade Iron Fragments

And please… don’t be bashful or embarrassed about your slag or terrestrial rock collection. Once you see the final Slag Happens video, you’ll understand very quickly that some slag is genuinely beautiful, fascinating and even collectible in its own right. We made this presentation to EDUCATE people on the differences between slag and meteorites — not to insult slag or terrestrial rock collectors or put these materials down. This future follow-up video will focus on BOTH slag and naturally occurring meteorwrongs.

We will announce the official YouTube release date for Slag Happens once the edit is complete. Expect the final edited version to be long and absolutely PACKED with educational excellence presented by Topher Spinnato and The Knowledge Bolide Crew’s very own on-staff geologist Mike Kelly.

📂 UPLOAD YOUR PHOTOS & VIDEOS HERE:
drive.google.com/drive/folders/1yZKHGPzUfPD1mAyD1l…

IMPORTANT UPLOAD INSTRUCTIONS:
• Please create your own folder within this folder on our drive
• Rename your folder using the name you would like credited in the YouTube video (full name, alias, YouTube handle, first initial + last name, etc.)
• Please do NOT upload 20 photos/videos of the same specimen expecting us to review and choose one for you. We do not have time to review that many photos and videos.
• Simply upload your BEST photo or video of each specimen you want to share with us.
• There is no limit to how many specimens you can upload. Feel free to share your entire collection with us as long as the specimens are one of the ten types we are looking for.
• Rename the file after the specimen itself (example: “Coal Clinker” or “Basalt Lava”)
• Media must be high quality, high resolution, properly focused and well lit to be considered for inclusion
• All submissions are not guaranteed to be included in the final video.
Once we review your upload, we will likely download the media and remove it from the shared folder so nobody else can accidentally edit or alter your files. So please do not panic if your upload disappears after a while.

IMPORTANT: If you do not rename your file using one of the top ten meteorwrong names we have listed above, your photos and videos will immediately be deleted!

⏰ Deadline for uploads: END OF JUNE

Thank you to everyone who has continued supporting these long-form educational projects. We know this one has taken a while… but trust us… Slag Happens is going to be worth it.

LAST CALL - MUST ORDER TODAY! (January 10th)
2026 Topherspin Meteorites Witnessed Fall Calendar ☄️

In this video, Sue highlights her annual Topherspin Meteorites Witnessed Fall Calendar, a project that continues to raise the bar each year. Approximately 330 of the individual day boxes are dedicated to witnessed meteorite fall anniversaries, making this calendar both educational and visually engaging. The 12 full-color 11×8.5" images featured throughout were selected from our annual photo contest, now in its third year — and the quality is truly top notch.

The calendar originally sold for $25.00 + shipping during pre-orders, then moved to a regular price of $30.00 + shipping. Due to a recently discovered last-minute supplier discount that expires tonight, we’re able to briefly offer the $25.00 + shipping price again. Orders will be accepted until 8:00 PM for anyone who missed out and would like one for their own wall or as a gift for a meteorite-loving friend.

This pricing may be available again in the future, but there are no guarantees. Several people have asked how to order, so this is your opportunity. To place an order, please send your name, shipping address, phone number, email, and payment method to Sue and Topher at topherspin@gmail.com We accept Zelle (preferred), PayPal, Venmo, and personal checks.

As a reminder, Patreon members who combine a calendar purchase with a qualifying meteorite purchase may be eligible for an additional discount per their membership benefits. Feel free to reach out with any questions.

WE ARE EXTENDING THE DEADLINE FOR THE CALENDAR CONTEST!!

***** WARNING ***** Before you comment on this post, ask yourself if what you are about to share is actually related to our post. Comments such as "I found a rock and want to sell it." or "Where do I send pictures to you of a rock I found?" are not related to our post, nor is it appropriate for you to attempt to divert attention away from our post for yourself. Please be respectful when commenting on our or any other creators' posts.

We have been extremely busy this month preparing The Ron Metchis Collection database to be released for sale, rolling out a new Patreon tier, and shipping out the meteorites to the members of Group Classification #1. We have not had time to promote the contest so we will be extending it out to the end of October.

Topherspin Meteorites will be releasing a 2026 Witnessed Falls Meteorite Calendar. The cover photo of the calendar will be reserved for Topher Spinnato. The remaining eleven months will include photos taken by members of our amazing community! We will send a free calendar to each of the eleven people we choose to feature. The real prize for this contest is the glory and honor of having your meteorite photo chosen to represent a month in the year 2026. We are announcing the contest much earlier this year due to an overwhelming number of requests to have these ready to ship in time for Christmas. You guys asked and we're making it happen!

CONTEST RULES:

* Your photo does not need to be a meteorite witnessed fall. (The reason we call it a Witnessed Fall Calendar is due to the daily photos. The contest is for the monthly photos)
* Get creative! The bar has been set really high after last year.
* Its better to photograph exotic and rare meteorites as opposed to more commonly known meteorites such as Chelyabinsk or Sikhote-Alin.
* This contest is open to all ages.
* One photo submission per person.
* Only individuals are eligible. Companies are not eligible.
* We will allow individuals to submit on behalf of non-profits, educational institutions.
* Photo must be uploaded to your own Google drive or Google Photo Album and then shared with meteoritephotocontest@gmail.com
* Please make sure to give me permission to edit the folder so I can download your photo.
* Please include the name of the meteorite and the weight in grams.
* Please include your full name and the country you live in when submitting your photo!
* By submitting your photo, you are sharing the digital rights to the photo with Topherspin Meteorites (Not exclusive rights, you still retain the right to use your own photo)
* If your photo is chosen for the calendar, your name will be credited on the photo in the calendar.
* We prefer that submissions include classified meteorites only. We know that we’re potentially missing out on some great unclassified beauties, but we just don’t want to sift through the mountain of meteorwrong photos we will receive without enforcing this rule. Exception: Please feel free to include provisional meteorites that are in the process of being classified.
* Photos should be in widescreen/landscape orientation
* Submissions must be received by October 31st at midnight so get snapping!!

We will start accepting preorders for calendar after we announce the winners of the photo contest. These calendars make great Christmas/Hanukkah gifts for the meteorite lover in your life! If you thought our 2024 and 2025 calendars were awesome, wait until you see our 2026 calendar!
