Been working on a new map scene inspired directly by Crusader Kings III.
There’s still a lot of work to do before the first video using this new system is ready, but the foundation is finally coming together.
The goal: a cleaner, more cinematic historical map style — built for long-form history videos.

Production Update: The Evolution of Our Maps 🌍
Chapter 4 is officially fully rendered out in 4K at 60fps! Pushing these complex programmatic map components through the rig is intense, but seeing the final result makes the render times entirely worth it.
I wanted to give you all a behind-the-scenes look at a massive visual upgrade we are rolling out for this new project.
Take a look at the two images below.
The Before: You'll recognize our classic satellite base map from older projects. Great for geography, but static.
The After: Our brand-new custom mapping engine. Notice the sleek UI elements, the sharp territorial borders, and the bold red Roman Hispania overlay.
This isn't just a texture update. This new style treats the map like a tactical chessboard, allowing us to show the rise and fall of empires with surgical precision. The upcoming documentary is the first project utilizing this, and it is going to take the storytelling to a completely different level.
Drop a comment and let me know how you feel about the new aesthetic!

Been working on some updates to the map system this week.
Main focus was camera movement — smoother transitions, better framing when shifting regions, and overall more control when moving across the map.
Also added image textures.
So now, instead of flat overlays, images actually sit inside the map and have a bit of depth to them. Makes everything feel more grounded and less “on top” of the scene.
Rendered a short example of it here.
Still polishing things, but it’s a solid step forward.
Full video got pushed back a week because of some stuff on my end — but this should give you an idea of what’s coming next.

I’ve been experimenting with a new way to show battles on the map…
Instead of just arrows and highlights, I’m testing a tile-based battlefield system—
where units move, engage, and break based on position.
This is still early, but the goal is to make battles feel more like a real strategy map.
Curious—would you want to see battles presented like this?

The Alps were never meant to be crossed.
This is a 0.25s glimpse from an upcoming long-form documentary on Hannibal vs Rome — told entirely through a living war map.
Before I go all-in on this format, I want your honest take:
👉 Does the map help you feel the strategy and scale of the story?
👉 Anything confusing, distracting, or especially cool?
Your feedback will directly shape the final film.
