The first Filipino Olympian was David Nepomuceno, a sprinter from Albay who competed in the 1924 Paris Olympics. At just 24 years old, he endured a 33-day sea voyage to represent the Philippines in the 100m and 200m dash. Though he didn’t win a medal, his historic participation marked the country’s Olympic debut and opened the door for future Filipino and Southeast Asian athletes on the world stage.
