Hi everyone! You may (or may not) have noticed that I recently changed the name of my YouTube account. ExpertVagabond is now @ExpertVagabondMatt . I plan to publish a video explaining why, but the short version is that both myself and the world has changed over the last 10 years, and I'm pursuing a new project.
Travel blogs are dying out with the rise of AI and outrage social media. I spent all this time & money traveling, researching, and producing content about travel destinations to share with others, only for commercial content scrapers and AI algorithms to simply steal it all and republish everything as their own.
Travel blogging no longer makes sense as a business model, and is no longer enjoyable for me personally either. I finally burned out.
However with new technologies, come new opportunities as well. I've been a big fan of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality for years now. New headsets like the Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest 3 have made large improvements in quality and ease of use.
Watching travel videos in an immersive VR180 3D format with surround sound Spatial Audio -- finally comes close to actually being there yourself. If you haven't tried watching a video like this on one of these headsets, I highly recommend you give it a shot! A much more realistic experience than a 2D rectangle YouTube video.
You can get a free 30 minute demo of the Apple Vision Pro headset at any Apple Store.
I've started recording travel & nature experiences in this new format, specifically for these VR headsets. The market is small, but growing. And as the headsets continue to get better, smaller, and less expensive, I feel more people will want to enjoy remote travel destinations from the comfort of home. I still get to share my passion for travel with others, but in a new way that's even more realistic than I previously could.
Not everyone can afford the time and expense of frequent international travel.
Watching fully immersive travel videos in high resolution 3D that pops out, with audio that surrounds you, is the next best thing to being there yourself!
I hope you'll continue to follow along as I share these virtual reality travel & nature videos here.
If you don't have a VR headset yet, don't worry, you can still watch them on the YouTube app -- using your phone to look around.
