Amazon review sharing is changing — and honestly, it’s not bad news for most sellers.

Starting February 12, Amazon is tightening how reviews are shared across product variations. The goal?

More accurate reviews and better buying decisions for customers.

What’s actually changing?

Until now, reviews could be shared across very different variations — even when the products weren’t truly the same. That loophole is being closed.

Reviews will still be shared for:

1 : Color or pattern variations of the same product

2 : Size changes with the same function (e.g., king vs queen)

3 : Pack sizes or quantities

4 : Secondary scent variations (non–scent-focused products)

5 : Same product type with different model fitments (e.g., phone cases)

Why this is a good thing

For sellers who play by the rules, this is a win.

Example:

A black and red t-shirt sharing reviews ✅ makes sense

A popular board game sharing reviews with a completely different game ❌ doesn’t

This update helps prevent review manipulation and protects legitimate listings from competitors “borrowing” credibility.

Who needs to pay attention?

Sellers of consumables and flavor-based products and supplements etc

Example:

Chocolate flavor vs vanilla flavor

Strawberry vs mango supplements

These may now need separate parent listings, meaning:

Reviews may no longer carry over

Some products may feel like a fresh launch


For most sellers, this change improves fairness and transparency.
For some, it requires restructuring — but long term, it creates a cleaner marketplace.
