Bosiki defends DCS title at the Two Oceans Marathon

Masonwabe Bosiki of Pollsmoor Correctional Facility in the Western Cape has once again stamped his authority among Department of Correctional Services (DCS) athletes at the Two Oceans Marathon.

Clocking an impressive 3:52 in the gruelling 56km race, Bosiki was the first DCS athlete to cross the finish line. He successfully defended his DCS title, securing back-to-back victories within the department and reinforcing his reputation as a formidable force in ultra-distance running.

Joint security operation at Nelspruit Correctional Centre leads to contraband seizure.

On Friday, 12 December 2025, a joint operation by the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) and the South African Police Service (SAPS) at Nelspruit Correctional Centre uncovered illegal items. The search of 12 cells, involving 411 inmates, was part of ongoing Festive Season Security Operational Plan to prevent crime and smuggling.

Confiscated items included:
•34 cellphones & accessories (chargers, batteries, SIM cards)
•126 sachets of dagga
•Smoking pipes, sharpened objects, and a saw blade
•Bank cards, cash (R421.10)
•USB and vaping devices
•Numerous cigarettes, snuff, and other unauthorized goods

Inmates found with contraband will face internal disciplinary procedures. The public is reminded that smuggling items into correctional facilities is a criminal offence and can lead to prosecution.

DCS reaffirms its commitment to safe, secure, and orderly facilities for all officials, inmates, and surrounding communities.

DCS and SAPS Conduct Joint Search Operation in Klerksdorp Management Area

A successful joint searching operation was conducted today, 26 November 2025, by Correctional Services officials and members of the South African Police Service at Wolmaransstad Correctional Centre in the Klerksdorp Management Area. The operation then proceeded to the Schweizer-Reneke Police Station and later the Amalia Police Station holding cells.

All security protocols were strictly observed, and the operation was completed without any incidents.

Contraband items recovered included:
• Extra blankets
• Electric wires
• A speaker
• Extra offenders’ uniform
• Dagga pipe

All confiscated items have been secured in line with prescribed procedures.

The Department of Correctional Services remains committed to maintaining safe and secure facilities that support effective rehabilitation.

Search Operation Nets Major Haul of Contraband at Ermelo

In a targeted operation, the Department of Correctional Services' (DCS) Emergency Support Team uncovered a trove of illicit items at Ermelo Correctional Centre.

The haul from 188 offenders included:
•32 cellphones & 33 chargers
•86 sachets of dagga
•Crystal meth, Nyaope, and drug paraphernalia
•13 sharpened objects and other weapons
•R642.50 in cash

This seizure underscores our zero-tolerance policy and reaffirms our commitment to safe, secure, and rehabilitative correctional facilities.
