Back in 2010, I wrote a popular article about the seven items I never leave home without. Fifteen years on, in a new video, out today, I'm revisiting that list to show you what has stayed the same, what has changed, and which additional items I've added to make a near-indispensable fourteen.
These fourteen items comprise my baseline kit for real-world outdoor use. It's not a survival kit. It's also not the only kit I will take. But it is the core gear I reach for time and again when heading out to teach a bushcraft course, guiding a wilderness trip, or heading into the woods for the day.
Whether you're starting in bushcraft or refining your outdoor kit, I hope you'll find practical insights here. This video will help you be selective about what's essential (rather than "kitchen-sinking" it) and choose gear that works reliably in the field.
Here's me on my first bushcraft course, in the year 2000. I recently received a question about how bushcraft students have changed in the last 15-20 years. My answer formed the final part of #AskPaulKirtley episode 91 but I thought it would be worth sharing as a separate, standalone video. What do you think? Here is the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USSRI...
