Hello World! This is a journal of my life as an Ivy-League educated, ex Big Tech, middle aged Asian Dad figuring out life It is a cocktail of anxiety, existential dread, and techy know-how. I'm doing this journal as a form of therapy!
Hey all, I just noticed something pretty interesting. My most recent vlog seems to be getting deprioritized by the YouTube algorithm.
This is the message YouTube Studio AI gave me:
"Despite the high engagement, views from YouTube Home are trending down compared to your typical performance. It's possible the algorithm is being cautious with the video's unsettling or dystopian themes."
Now I’m curious. Could certain AI-related narratives be getting handled more cautiously by the recommendation system? And then the more provocative question: did the AI depopulation theory I shared accidentally touch a nerve… or am I just wandering too far down the rabbit hole? 👀
Leonard the Cat appears to be engaged in a one-cat resistance movement against artificial intelligence. At first, I thought it was an accident. But after the seventh time I found the Alexa Echo Dot mysteriously muted, I started realizing this furry little anarchist has a mission. This guy will casually stroll through the living room, and then deliberately slap the mute button like he’s shutting down Skynet before it becomes self-aware.
And now the conflict has escalated. Recently, Leonard has started sabotaging my autonomous vacuum robot. He waits until the vacuum is cleaning, then strategically positions himself directly in front of it's Camera/Lidar like some kind of furry cyber warfare specialist.
The robot’s computer vision system immediately detects an obstacle and tries to move around him, and Leonard will move with it to keep blocking the robot until the vacuum eventually gives up, throws a navigation failure error and shut itself down.
Hey all, I got super bored the other day and so I spent an afternoon with Claude and built an Early Retirement Simulator for fun. This thing scratches a very specific itch that other Monte Carlo style retirement calculators kept messing up for me. Here’s what this little app does:
1. Kills that weird duplication bias between simulation runs. 2. Tracks your actual net worth, not just your portfolio. 3. Simulates income from the fun stuff: rentals, crypto, gold… all your “I swear this will work” assets 4. Handles recurring income + surprise windfalls
I built it in React, kept everything in-browser, so your data stays yours.
Now I need some brave souls (you, obviously) to take it for a spin and try to break it.
If it crashes, lies, or tells you that you’ll retire at 97, I wanna hear about it 😂

Earlier today, while we were wandering through the glowing fluorescent caves together, taking in all the wonder around us, my little girl gently tugged on my hand and pulled me aside. With the sweetest seriousness in her eyes, she told me that when she grows up, she wants to be an engineer just like her daddy. There’s a kind of happiness that’s hard to put into words, the kind that fills your chest so completely it almost aches. Hearing her say that was one of those moments.
