Hey, I'm alive! Finally got the 2025 GOTY video out super on time, the first big video back should be in the next couple of weeks. Not going out for cigarettes again this time, promise.
Hey guys, important but kinda mixed update time. TL;DR at bottom
It had slipped my mind to update you all until now, but saying nothing doesnt feel quite right.
A few weeks ago we had to put down Ivan, the brother of our other geriatric cat that we had to put down in December and very much *my* cat that had been with me since I was 10. His health had been slowly declining, and while we were on top of things an issue he'd had his whole life with his kidneys that we'd been managing since he was a kitten finally caught up with him and in the last week he declined very rapidly.
It was definitely time and he lived a happy, loved life, but that didn't make it any easier, and while I have just returned to streaming on Twitch this past week I'm definitely still feeling creatively bankrupt on and off; hard to make things when you miss your buddy, you know?
The brighter part of this update is a lot more uplifting thankfully. As I mentioned, I'm back to streaming 3-4 times a week over on Twitch, which is at least giving some normalcy. More importantly for everyone here on Youtube, some concrete plans for the future.
The next video in a few weeks time is going to be a girthy video essay on both The Last of Us Part 1 and Part 2. I'm finishing up my playthrough of Part 2 in the next week or so on Twitch and the edit should be quite speedy.
Following that video, there is going to be a gap to the next video, but that next video will be the sequel to my retrospective on KH, the KH2 giga-essay.
I'm still figuring out how to balance work, streaming, editing and posting on here with... well, having a life? lol
But I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone that pops in on my videos when you get the notifications, it means a lot, and I'm doing my best to fill out a catalog of video essays worthy of being side monitor content.
TL;DR
- Had to put childhood cat down, slowed down pretty much everything content wise - Back to streaming regularly on Twitch - Next video is on TLOU 1 & 2 - Video after that will be the big bad Kingdom Hearts 2 giga-essay
The devs behind Wanderstop over at Ivy Road sent me a build of the full game early (can't say more until embargo drops, but it rules) and they sent me this awesome care package as thanks for covering the game on the channel.
If you want to see it opened and closeups of all the contents, the members-only video is up now (first of its kind, hoping to have more memb only stuff soon alongside normal videos) but the contents were:
- Hardcover, full-color replica field guide with concept art and open journal section at the back - Like 7 sticker pages with stuff from the game (for use in said field guide) - Handmade ceramic tea cup - 4 different tea blends mimicking the tea flavors in game - Tea diffuser - Pluffin keychain
I can't say more about the game until release, but it is completely challenging what I expected it to be and is a great deconstruction + reconstruction of cozy games, absolutely recommended and one hell of a comeback game for Davey Wreden.
Huge thanks to ‪@AnnapurnaInteractive‬ and the crew at Ivy Road, especially their community director, Jenny!
If you haven't seen it yet I put out a preview for Wanderstop, the next game from Davey Wreden (Stanley Parable, The Beginner's Guide) and his new studio Ivy Road. They are also sending me a care package for launch on March 11th, and I am gonna be posting an unboxing as a members only video because I don't do enough for members currently and I'd like to change that.
When the package arrives feel free to drop by my stream and ask and I'll be happy to show off whatever they send if you don't want to/aren't already a member. New video soon-ish then full force on the KH2 essay. Talk soon!
First (and most importantly) I'm back! Like, actually back and making and posting videos again, papa's home. 4 months is a long time to be away and I briefly explain a bit at the end of the video going out later today but TLDR real life happened and that always comes first. Regardless, I'm happy to be back.
Some important changes are gonna be coming that you can look out for.
One of those changes is that I'm going to try making significantly shorter videos to fill the gaps between my really long video essays. Like, 5 minutes short. I'm not sure how to market them, I was thinking along the lines of a mini review / mini video essay, though.
This will allow me to actually put stuff out while still working on those bigger projects so the videos between bigger projects don't consume my life as much as I tend to let them. Ideally this means a lot more output from me this year.
Another big change that you may or may not have already noticed is that I've completely abandoned costreaming my normal Twitch livestreams to Youtube for a couple reasons. The biggest one is that I've seen some pretty compelling evidence that costreaming to Youtube murders your normal Youtube video's chances at doing well and I would much rather this platform be for that than a place where I occasionally also stream to. If you would like to watch me live feel free to drop by on Twitch, same name everywhere.
Also, I've finally took the jump and moved to Bluesky from Twitter. Twitter has been cooked for awhile and Bluesky lets me have feeds for OSRS and funny cat pictures, the choice was easy.
And finally, less of an update more of a heads up, you might have been one of the like 10 people that saw the comeback video today. Most likely not. I tried unchecking sending the video to sub boxes because I had heard for awhile that it might positively impact video performance but uh... it was the worst I've had a video do in the history of the channel, and I've had some stinkers lol
Reposting it later today, it might already be out by the time you see this, and I'd really appreciate any support on the first one back. You'll be seeing a lot more of me around here real soon, I missed it.
Hey all, just wanted to keep you in the loop as I realize that a lot of subs here might not be as tuned in as the people that watch the streams or are in the discord.
So, full transparency, had a really hectic last month, had 2 videos about half done and then last week I ended up taking a lot of OT, getting sick and then Thanksgiving of course, but on a bit of a more depressing note the time finally came to put down one of our older cats. He had cancer and it was definitely time but that doesn't make it any easier.
With the last whirlwind of weeks I have, admittedly, fallen off editing a good bit. Editing is very much a creative problem solving process for me and its been a bit hard to be creative lately all things considered. I just wanted to at least make a post because I know its been quite a bit since I've put out a video, and even the last 2 streams I did last week I didn't multistream them because it was 2 Twitch Drops streams for Guild Wars 2 and going on and on about a Twitch exclusive thing while multistreaming would've been odd lol
Thank you all for your patience, there *will* be fun, new content soon, stay safe during the holidays, and give your pets a hug for me. Talk soon.
