I'm trying to record mostly anything I do at the moment, you never know, there may be some interesting bits for you.

Following the last post for a midi sequencer sort of thing. I am still on with it.... mainly for my own interest. But have been waylaid a bit with work and buying other stuff to muck about with. I'm Awaiting an amyboard at the moment, so that will give me more stuff to tinker with, and I my try and incorporate it into a midi controller type of thing.

Thinking of making a midi sequencer, controller and mini synth possibly with some cv outputs as well....... initially to control my own stuff. Planning on a touch sensitive guitar like thing. If I ever get round to it, and it works, I may put it on kickstarter....... as made to order, pcbs or kits (don't really know yet). Would anyone be interested ?

On jam 25 now....... Only 6 more to go....... What a relief, to me, and possibly any listeners (but I hope not too much :)). After this I want to get back to some modular stuff, and some homemade gear.

Synthesizer Upcycling: Yamaha DX9 to DX7-ish.
I've just finished converting a Yamaha DX9 synthesizer into a sort of DX7 using a Rom file from
github.com/ajxs/yamaha_dx97
Turns the 4-operator into 6-operator.
I made a rough video of it using my phone, and will try to upload it sometime in the next few days.
The battery needed replacing so I thought I'd do the mod as well. The video shows battery replacement.
Note: Very similar for DX7.
Also after turning the synth on and off a few times (it had been standing for > 10 years) smoke started coming from it...... It was caused by an inlet filter capacitor...... a common problem on the DX9/7. So, I show replacement of that as well. Although looking at the schematic, I think that this could be removed completely. Anyway you should see it in the videos
Am I probably one of only 3 people who have attempted this !?
I do have a DX7 somewhere as well, so this could be thought of as masochism, but thought I'd try the conversion out.
After the conversion, I managed to get some original DX7 patches into it, although the DX9 only has enough space for 10 after the conversion.
Obviously, I could have used Dexed to get the same sounds, but I like stand-alone hardware... and mucking about with it.
Anyway, I hope it is of some interest.
