Pictures On My Mind

I'm Edward Thompson and I've been a pro photographer for 24 years with 10 years teaching experience as a Senior Lecturer in universities in the U.K.

I've been published by National Geographic Magazine, The Guardian Weekend Magazine, BBC, CNN, Huck, The British Journal of Photography and VICE.

I've worked on around 3,000 professional photography assignments for some of the world's leading magazines, charities and organisations.

I'm a pro photographer pretending to be a YouTuber, not a YouTuber pretending to be a photographer! 🤣

If you like what I do and want me to keep making it please consider JOINING my channel as a member for £2.99.

Thank you

p.s
You've read this far so I think I can trust you.... this whole Youtube show thing is my crash course in film making! I figured by making a video a week I could improve my editing, lighting, sound recording and interview technique. The aim? To make a feature documentary film about photography! If you can help me PLEASE do

Pictures On My Mind

So its the Live Channel Members Q&A tomorrow night at 8pm (Thursday 28th May). If you would like to join me as I attempt to tackle the questions below please join my channel. It's £2.99. youtube.com/channel/UC_MGPuhal7u0-pgGVvxPxww/join

1)
I've seen a few people share sets of photos from "Tommy Ten Names' " march in London last weekend. What do you think of street photographers or people 'trying' to do documentary photography at these events. Is a far-right rally a good photography day out? ;) does it need to be documented by street photographers? and do we need to be wary of the motive of some of the people who claim to be documenting it?

2)
Hi!
How do you keep yourself informed about what's happening in the photography world?
Do you watch other YouTube channels?
Do you read blogs/articles?
Is it through social media?
Colleagues?
Thank you! :)

3)
Liked your interview on idle hands here are some questions off the back of that:

Have you ever made an image that later felt “charged” or haunted?

Have you ever photographed someone and captured something they didn’t yet see in themselves?

Can repeated viewing of an image change consciousness?

Right-on! Channel Members Q&A LIVE will be this Tuesday 21st April at 8pm (U.K time). I have some questions to go through already, but always room for more!

Pictures On My Mind

I talked about taking some photographs for Erik in the last episode, https://youtu.be/8A9joNzFnpI here they are a little higher resolution than the video.

A very quick shoot, start to finish was only 30 minutes. Having a background in editorial photography allows you to work fast, try different compositions but also be focused on what works as you still want to give the photo editor choice.

The day after this shoot I had a portrait assignment for The Sunday Times, but this shoot was all for Erik and what he wanted for his business start-up. The video helps to explain.
