large proportion of girls in Malawi marry before turning 18. One source estimates about 37.7% of girls were married before age 18 in 2020. ๏ฟผ
In earlier years the numbers were even higher: around 46% of girls were married before 18, and about 9% before age 15. ๏ฟผ
Rates are higher in rural areas and among poorer, less-educated girls. For example, in 2020: urban ~22.3%, rural ~41.1%. ๏ฟผ
Child marriage has serious and wide-ranging consequences:
It often forces girls out of school, limiting education and future opportunities. ๏ฟผ
It increases health risks: early pregnancy, childbirth complications, higher maternal and infant mortality. ๏ฟผ
It can lead to loss of autonomy, increased vulnerability to domestic/sexual violence, and poverty. ๏ฟผ
Some of the key drivers in Malawi include:
Poverty and economic pressure on families โ marriage may be seen as a way to reduce burden or gain bride-price. ๏ฟผ
Low levels of education for girls and limited school continuation. ๏ฟผ
Traditional/cultural norms: gender roles, expectations about early marriage, childbearing. ๏ฟผ
Teenage pregnancy often precedes or triggers marriage. ๏ฟผ

The New Era Forgot the Motherโ
MaSunGoddess 777 / Maatโs Temple of Healing and Unconditional Love)
The New Era struts down runways in stolen hips.
She paints her lips full, thick, honey-brown โ
but never whispers thank you to the women who birthed that shape.
They call it exotic.
But I call it ancestral.
Itโs the echo of Nubian queens and river-mothers,
the rhythm of hips that knew how to call rain from the sky
and feed whole nations from the soil.
Before the lights, before the filters,
before โinfluencersโ started selling what we were born with,
the Indigenous, melanated woman was the blueprint.
The standard.
The beginning and the breath.
Yet they threw her under the bus of their own invention โ
told her she was too much,
told her lips were too big,
told her curves were too wild.
Then copied every curve, every curl, every ounce of what she is.
Colonial cosmetics dressed up as compliment.
See โ the European male gaze never stopped colonizing.
It just learned Photoshop.
It renamed sacred flesh fashion.
It called the Black womanโs power trend.
They still praise the boyish figure โ
not because itโs divine,
but because itโs controllable.
Because a woman with hips can carry the world,
and that terrifies them.
You can trace it in their art,
their runways, their ads โ
the same repressed thirst that once punished our women
now profits off their image.
They sell us back our own bodies,
one commercial at a time.
But the truth canโt stay hidden forever.
The Mother always returns.
Her thunder thighs shake the earth awake.
Her lips speak life again.
Her melanin glows like the moon reborn.
We are not โexotic.โ
We are eternal.
We are not imitation โ
We are origin.
And this New Era?
It can keep pretending,
but the old magic is rising again โ
in every Sistah who remembers her worth,
in every ancestor who dances through our skin,
in every temple of healing that refuses to forget
where beauty truly began.

The Womb and the Heart: Returning to the
Ancient Mother Within
When the womb heals, the heart remembers how to love again โ and the whole
family line begins to breathe.
For years I didnโt realize that the tightness in my chest and the ache in my belly were
connected. I thought they were two different pains โ one emotional, one physical. But
the truth was deeper: my heart and my womb were carrying the same old story โ the
story of women in my family who learned to survive but forgot how to rest in love.
I grew up watching strong women who rarely had time to cry. They worked, prayed,
raised children, buried dreams, and kept moving. No one ever taught us that the body
remembers what the heart tries to forget.
That memory lives in the womb. It shows up
as fear of being vulnerable, mistrust between women, resentment toward mothers, or
a deep tiredness that no sleep can fix.
My healing began the day I finally sat still and
placed one hand on my heart and one on my womb. I whispered, โItโs okay now.โ That
small act became a doorway. I started journaling, breathing, and talking gently to the
parts of me I used to ignore. Old memories came up โ arguments, losses, silence.
I cried for my mother, for her mother, for all the women who had to be strong before
they ever felt safe. As I worked on healing my womb, something unexpected
happened: my relationship with my daughter softened. Instead of trying to make her
โbe good,โ I started listening to her feelings. My sons opened up more โ they began
to express their emotions instead of hiding them behind anger.
Even my mother and I
began to speak from a place of truth instead of blame. The energy between us
changed because I changed the story within me.
Thatโs how generational curses
begin to break โ not through confrontation, but through transformation. In meditation I
began calling on the Ancient Mothers โ Tiamat, Isis, Mut, Nut โ symbols of creation
and divine compassion. When I breathed with them in mind, I felt something awaken.
It was as if my womb was remembering that it was sacred, not sinful โ creative, not
cursed. Each time I connected to that energy, I felt lighter, clearer, more loving. My
intuition grew sharper; my heart felt safer to open. I began to understand that healing
my womb was not only about me โ it was about helping my children, my community,
and even the men in my life reconnect to the divine feminine within themselves.
When a woman heals, men also heal โ their creativity, emotions, and physical balance
begin to rise. Even science shows that chronic stress and emotional suppression
affect the immune and reproductive systems โ prostate issues in men, breast and
uterine conditions in women.
Healing the womb is returning to love. Itโs remembering
that we come from a cosmic mother who never stopped loving us, only waited for us
to come home.
Try this simple ritual: Sit quietly, hand on heart and womb. Inhale
through the nose, exhale through the mouth. Whisper: โI forgive. I release. I remember
who I am.โ Do this daily. Over time, youโll feel warmth connecting heart to womb โ a
bridge of peace.
When I healed my womb, I stopped repeating my motherโs pain.
When my heart opened, I could finally love without fear. Now, I see healing in my
childrenโs eyes โ and that is the greatest confirmation of all.
