Do you like working in smaller images around one theme, or are you more of a single composition person?
Travel-inspired sketchbook spreads are my favorite way to capture a place, and I’ve been obsessed with this format for years. Breaking a scene into smaller moments helps you tell more of the story, and honestly? I think it’s so much easier and more fun than tackling one big composition. 😊 This one is inspired by Vaud, Switzerland. One trip, one theme, each little scene a piece of the same memory.
🎨 Illustration on iPad is made with my mixed media brushees in Procreate.
✨Comment “composition” if you would like me to send you a link to my basics of composition for illustration class.

1,2,3 or 4? Which one is your favorite? This is a mountains appreciation post after returning from a trip there.
I still need to finish a few sketchbook spreads that I have in making that I started while being there 😅 I am working on them when I have spare time. Every 10 min that I can paint adds up to finish sketchbook spread.
I hope that you are having a nice Friday and weekend ahead 🧡

Anyone else building a reference folder just to paint later? 😊
I've been collecting and snapping photos of birds and mountain scenes for a while now. I've been drawn to these gorgeous mountain and meadow scenes with cottages but decided to start smaller for this sketchbook spread. Sometimes a single subject teaches you more than tackling the whole scene.
So I finally sat down and painted this little red robin for #pleinairpril2025. I adjusted the classic red belly and dark back combo and played with different color combinations, layering various shades throughout. Swipe to see the process.
I also paired it with a cottage window scene I painted in Procreate a while back. They just felt right together.
🤩⭐️ I am planning on starting a new YouTube channel all about traditional art supplies and sketchbooks so keep an eye out for that if you are interested
I used mainly gouache from my dry gouache palette. You can find my fave art supplies on my website. There will be a video on the dry palette on my new channel 🎨👌

Tram or a bike? Which one would you prefer when going to the city for a coffee? 😊
This spread is inspired by colorful houses in Fitzroy, Melbourne and some other fun things. Swipe to see some of my references.
🎨 I used mixed media. Mostly gouache, some watercolor, pencils and neocolors.
🎬 I am currently working on a new class about simplification
💌I can’t wait to share it with you. I will send a email when it’s out so if you like to be notified sign up for my newsletter 🧡

🌸🌺 A or B? Where would you have a picnic? On a hill by the lake or on a big meadow under a huge tree? 😊
🎨 I used mix of my Procreate brushes ( sketching, watercolor, gouache and watercolor splatters)
This location is inspired by the Royal Botanic gardens in Victoria and the beautiful nature and bird life there 🦜
And this spread was originally inspired by the #ourplanetweek and prompt “feel the air”, in combination with #bringthespring challenge and prompt “garden visitor” 🧡

Which spring flowers are you looking forward to seeing the most? Spring is officially here! OK 😅 I am a few days late with this post but nevertheless happy spring! Here are a few spring activity ideas. I am excited to hay some fresh spring flowers at home.
I am looking forward to seeing so many beautiful flowers will pop up around the town. Magnolias, wisterias, lilacs, tulips or daffodils. I love the interesting shapes of daffodils or beautiful scent of purple lilac flowers later!
🎨 I mixed different brushes for this one creating a mixed media look that I really enjoy 😊 ( watercolor, gouache, painterly, grain, splatters and sketching brushes)

🎨Color tip: swap one color for something unexpected. ☺️ If you want to try something different in your sketchbook or illustrations, this is a fun one to experiment with. On my red panda, I replaced the dark brown fur with blue on the belly and legs. It works really well because blue and orange are opposites on the color wheel, so the warm fur pops more because of it.
The trick is keeping it consistent. I used blue in one zone only and repeated it across both red pandas. That's what keeps it feeling intentional and still within the semi-realism realm, like a deliberate choice rather than a mistake.
Try it on your next piece. If your subject is mostly warm, push the shadows cooler and see what happens. 😀
Also: Which spread do you like more? Raccoons or red panda?

Greenhouse studio or a house studio with a view? Which would you prefer? 🥰
🎨 iPad illustration is from my “dream studio class”, which is all about creativity, composition and storytelling. You can find it through my BIO or comment studio and I will send it to you.
I made the sketchbook spread during a live drawing session with @monkeymintaka which was all about greenhouses and sun rooms 🤩 Such a fun theme to illustrate! Loved the mood and the references.
