Brand new video is dropping Thursday of this week! I had planned this one for two weeks ago, but it was delayed due to "the situation". But we are back to adding brand new videos into the mix. Thanks to everyone for their patience and support. For future turkey hunting videos, what are you most interested in?

The New Hunters Guide

Second day hunting this season and got this beauty. Thank God! It was the biggest bodied deer I've ever put hands on. Wow was it heavy, even with help. I am so glad it wasn't a far drag. Had a few close encounters early on: a spooked buck I couldn't get a clear look at and a spooked little doe. Then at 7:00pm this one just strutted out from the woods, walked into the clearing and stood broadside like it was a photo opp. Now he's at the butcher being turned into many wonderful meals and snacks. Glan I can now turn my attention to bird hunting :)

The New Hunters Guide

So last night I took an amazing late season evening gobbler on public land! And what an exciting hunt it was too! I am so thankful to God for this beautiful bird. I would have likely given up, but He helped me keep going. It’s been a tough season; I hadn’t seen or heard a gobbler anywhere in the woods.

I had discovered this spot while hunting last week and noted it in my mind as an ideal place for an evening hunt. I don’t normally hunt evenings for turkey, but I just knew the spot and timing was right.

This was the second day of the season when you can hunt evenings and I slipped in around 6:15pm and wow was it beautiful. The sun was setting, and rays of light were shining through the treetops. Everything bright, green, and vibrant. It was spectacular.

I picked my spot in the middle of a few acres of big trees atop a hill that is mostly surrounded by brush fields and tall grass. And I started to call very softly. Some light purrs and clucks, and maybe a couple soft yelps here and there. I saw some deer and a squirrel, and just stayed still and kept calling really soft from time-to-time.

After around 1.5 hours I heard something, almost nothing, but then I turned and saw the gobbler coming from my far right, bobbing his head and softly putting at around 30-35 yards. It was the worst possible angle for me. I could not rotate far enough to take a shot. I didn’t expect anything to come from that side. I wasn’t hidden well from that angle either.

He spotted me, or something he didn’t like, and he turned around and began to walk back from where he came. I shifted my body and brought my gun up to bare in a far from ideal position. He started to walk away faster but didn’t run. I thought I lost him when he went behind some trees and brush, but when his head came out the other side, I was lined up well enough and took what might have been my last decent shot.

Down he went. I was literally shaking. It was like 0-200 MPH in 5 seconds. I couldn’t see where he was, so I got up and walked towards him, never taking my eyes off the last place I saw him. I found him at the bottom of a truck sized depression in the ground.

The adrenaline rush was real. I was so excited, so pumped, and so glad I had a red dot on my shotgun. Else I doubt it would have been possible to get a reasonable shot on target with how twisted up my body position was sitting there.

Thank God for this beautiful bird! Down at about 7:50pm. 20.9 lbs. and a 10.5” beard.

Had an awesome hunt on opening morning of the second season! Score one limit of mallards to start the season off right! Thanks be to God! How many mallards can you take in a day where you hunt? We were at two for years and this my first season where it was increased to four.

So thankful to God for my first limit of wood ducks in 2023! It was a crazy morning and a crazy day. Super excited though! BOSS Warchief 3/5s did the job on all of them. I roasted the legs in salt, pepper, garlic and ate them like mini chicken wings for a snack. These little birds are tasty! The rest were served pan seared with a blueberry sauce for dinner.
