Update on the Chimp Wars: they're still pretty active!
One of the researchers we spoke to for research on our Chimp War Deep Dive back in 2024 just published a new paper about the chimp war happening in Ngogo.
In January 1925, the children of Nome, Alaska faced a deadly diphtheria outbreak. Every child in Nome and its surrounding towns were in danger. Their local doctor couldn’t stop the progression of the disease, and with the next closest doctor being 10 days away, things did not look good. We make no assumptions here… but depending on your age, you might know where this is going. This story has a happy ending thanks to some very good boys and girls. One of these good boys, Balto, has even been memorialized in museums and on film. But how much of the 1995 animated movie is true? @mayahiga leads us through the incredible story in our latest Deep Dive! https://youtu.be/-zOWRc3c1u8?si=RYLva...
The next Deep Dive comes out this Thursday with a very special guest host @mayahiga! Maya Higa is one of the top female streamers on Twitch and a rising star on YouTube. Her passions include wildlife conservation and education, and she integrates these into her content regularly, creating some of the most unique content on Twitch. Her livestreams feature conservation education, IRL lifestyle content, and charity fundraising. Maya founded @AlveusSanctuary , a non-profit wildlife sanctuary and virtual education center in central Texas.

We do what we can: making hundreds of videos every year, getting curious about our world, and telling stories backed up by real science that you can trust. As times change, we do our best to cut through the noise and focus on putting good information out there into the world. You’re a vital part of that equation. We’ve always needed you, but now more than ever, we need your help.
