Quest Capsule

Hello all! After months of research, filming and editing, I’m excited to share my newest Quest Capsule story: The Evolution of the George Wythe House.

Running over an hour long, this film offers our most extensive exploration yet of one of Colonial Williamsburg’s most iconic homes.

Beginning with the house’s initial construction, we take an in-depth look at details surrounding the initial construction, cellar, exterior walls, front porch, doors, windows, cornice, roof, chimneys, surface drains, attic, and more before moving inside to thoroughly explore every room, along with the backyard and some of the reconstructed outbuildings that supported the property.

A few of our past stories have touched on this remarkable house, but this is our most complete exploration of it yet.

Along the way, we search for surviving original features, trace the many changes the house has undergone over the centuries, uncover the stories of the people who lived here, and explore the restoration that ultimately brought the house back to life.

If you’ve ever wanted to experience the George Wythe House in Colonial Williamsburg in greater detail from the comfort of home, this is our most complete look yet.

Tune in this Sunday 5/17 at 9AM EST on the Quest Capsule YouTube Channel to view: The Evolution of the George Wythe House.

I do hope you enjoy!

Quest Capsule

Hello all! It’s been a busy couple of months, and finally I'm returning from filming some new scenes for the latest Quest Capsule in Colonial Williamsburg that's right around the corner. An official announcement is coming soon.

Here’s a glimpse at a few images from the past couple of weeks (scroll right)...
One project took me to Jamestown Island, where I filmed with an author and historian for his story on the Sea Venture and Bermuda’s role in early American history. While this isn’t a Quest Capsule story, it involved filming throughout Jamestown, interviewing onsite historians, archaeologists, and curators, and capturing a wide range of scenic footage.

We also wrapped filming on a future Quest Capsule story at a well-known plantation in Virginia’s Tidewater region. A multi-faceted story already taking shape in pre-production, and one I’m especially excited to develop and tell.

But first, finalizing an extensive piece from a prominent historic site in Colonial Williamsburg, digging deeper there than I ever have before here, and a video I can’t wait to share with everyone.

Thanks for your patience and support while exciting new stories are taking shape!

Quest Capsule

Hello friends and followers of the channel!

I wanted to check in and give an update. It’s been a few weeks since posting the latest story, ā€œThe Day the Capitol Burned in Colonial Williamsburg.ā€ First, if you haven’t watched it yet, be sure to check it out. If you can, share it, leave a comment, and give it a like. Anything you can do helps get the story out beyond the constantly shifting world of the YouTube algorithm.

The same goes for any of the previous stories on our YouTube channel. Most of the historical content we make is evergreen, so even if a video is older, the story and history never truly fade.

Your support in the form of views, likes, comments, and shares makes a huge difference for the Quest Capsule channel. Without it, videos that take weeks and many hours to produce can sometimes go unnoticed during the short window when YouTube first pushes new content, upon releasing a new video.

One way to make sure you don’t miss anything is to click the bell on the channel. If you're logged into YouTube, it will send you a notification whenever a new video is released.

As for the next Quest Capsule story, a new script has been in the works for a few weeks now. I am still refining it before it officially moves into post-production editing. A little hint: it will be a deeper look at a well-known location I’ve covered before, but this time we will explore it in much more detail. This will also be the start of something I plan to do more of, which I hope you will like.

On the personal side, I’ve had limited time to dedicate to this story lately because my video production business has been busy with a near-spring rush. I have been producing videos for clients in my production company while continuing to work on the next Quest Capsule story whenever time allows.

I do want to confirm that another full-length story is in the works. However, the typical delivery time of roughly one video per month will be extended for this one due to business obligations. Rest assured, any free time I have is being spent carving out and finalizing the script so I can soon bring the new story to life in the edit room.

In other news, the new website will also see a slight delay in launching due to the influx of work in my video production business. It is very close to being finished and will go live as soon as possible. As I mentioned before, it will be a consolidated place away from YouTube where you can watch our content.

Any Raw Cut Journals that we produce will now be part of our Patreon channel only. These videos are the raw, mostly unedited journeys that we occasionally put out between episodes when time allows. I removed them from the main channel because they were causing some confusion with the YouTube algorithm regarding the typical type of videos uploaded on the channel. Anyone with a membership to Patreon will have access to these stories.

I appreciate everyone who has continued to support the channel over the years, even despite our channel not being a ā€œdaily or weekly videoā€ content channel, due to the amount of time it takes to produce a single story….then occasionally, furthered when an abundance of work from my video production business intersects story progress.

If there is one thing I promised myself long ago when I began the channel, it is this… if I rush through a story just to keep up with the constant pressure so many creators face to post as much content as possible, my heart and soul might not fully belong to each video, and burnout will soon follow. YouTube can be a tricky world, full of twists, turns, opinions, and assumptions. So much life happens during the course of making a single video that goes unseen, and this is all just part of the entire process.

Even when other things delay a story, it’s always unfolding in my mind. I shape it while driving, on a walk, or completely lost in thought...realizing I should add a section, confirm a detail, or film a new scene. Every video I make is ultimately for the people who truly love them and the stories and history they tell. At the same time, it’s my passion, and I want each one to reflect the care and heart I put into it.

I truly appreciate each and every one of you and your support as this channel continues to grow, almost seven years running this May, and God willing, with many more stories to tell.

Quest Capsule

The latest Quest Capsule story came with an unusual task: depicting the catastrophic destruction of the Capitol in Colonial Williamsburg, completely destroyed by fire and reduced to ashes, entirely recreated for the screen.

After announcing this new documentary last week, I want to let everyone know that on Sunday, February 15 at 10AM EST, one week after the Super Bowl, you can watch the premiere on the Quest Capsule YouTube Channel.

Some buildings vanish quietly over the centuries. Others, like Williamsburg’s colonial Capitol, went up in flames.Follow the events that led to disaster and uncover the story that unfolded in its aftermath.

Quest Capsule

Hello everyone, I’m excited to finally share an announcement on the next Feature Story Documentary that will soon be on the Quest Capsule YouTube Channel.šŸ”„

On this very day, January 30th, 1747, 279 years ago, in Colonial Williamsburg, the first Capitol building was lost to fire.

In my next Quest Capsule story, titled The Day the Capitol Burned in Colonial Williamsburg, I set out to explore what happened before, during, and after that devastating day.

From the calm before the fire, to the inferno itself, and the aftermath that followed, this is a story of suspicion, intrigue, and unanswered questions.

With very little investigation recorded at the time and few surviving accounts, I journey through Colonial Williamsburg to reflect on the devastation that caught the city off guard and the people who lived, worked, and governed there.

I explore the Capitol grounds and exterior, the inner halls and stairways, the General Court, the Hall of the House of Burgesses, the Council Chamber, and the Conference and Committee Rooms, searching for any clues left behind by history.

Who was to blame? What unfolded in the aftermath? How did it affect the people and the colony, and will we ever truly know the truth?

Stay tuned for a firm release date as I enter the final stages of post-production.

Quest Capsule

Good Morning and Happy New Year to all! I hope your year is off to a peaceful start.

I wanted to connect with followers of the channel to give an update on the latest story, soon to be announced, as well as to deliver a sort of ā€œState of the Quest Capsule Channelā€ announcement with hopeful new things I’d like to introduce to the channel for 2026.

I have three new updates I wanted to cover to start the year in this overly long update!

Update #1:

First, I’m excited to share the year’s first new episode update. Post-production of the next Quest Capsule has been underway since the beginning of the year, and all I can really share about the details at this point is that the history in this new story is going to get pretty ā€œhot.ā€

If you’ve been following the channel for a while, you know I don’t like to reveal what I’m covering until progress gets a little closer, although I might have slipped and shared details with some of you we’ve run into recently in Colonial Williamsburg. Currently, this story is in full editing mode and coming to life by the day. Soon, I will be sharing more details and when you can expect to see it later this month.

Update #2:

This year in June makes seven years of making Quest Capsule stories. At this point, over 220 videos have been produced. What began as a creative outlet from my typical work as a video producer slowly began to grow into something more meaningful and in depth, and through the twists, turns, and uncertainties of life, has become a central part of my everyday life and work unexpectedly.

At the beginning of the channel, we told a lot of stories from the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, the Outer Banks, and other places in the Carolinas and Florida. Over the past three to four years, many of the videos, as our followers would know, have focused on historic 17th and 18th century places and events. Many stories from Colonial Williamsburg, and over the past couple of years beginning to branch out into Yorktown and Jamestown.

Our hopes for this year are to continue telling these types of stories throughout Historic Virginia, but also covering history beyond Virginia. As always, I’m very excited to share the first video of 2026 with everyone that is currently in the works very soon. A rather complex chronicle from Williamsburg, but one I hope you enjoy the results of once complete.

I’ve said this over the years in various updates, but one of the things that always challenges me as a video creator when I’m deep in the production process of a long format vlog documentary is the amount of time it takes to produce a single video. There’s really no way around this, as it just takes time. Roughly a month or more to produce a full-length story from start to finish, and this is often only including the time it takes to research, write, voice, edit, and create any motion graphics or effects required to tell and enhance the story.

This does not include the time it takes to travel and actually film the story I’m telling. It’s just the reality of what it takes to do the type of videos you watch on the Quest Capsule YouTube channel, and it’s the only way I can bring these types of stories to the people who enjoy watching them. I can’t say enough how important your support is to our ability to make these videos. Following the channel, watching the videos, subscribing, leaving kind comments, sharing, making a financial contribution, and getting the word out are all so important, and we are so grateful for everyone who supports us.

It truly is the most rewarding feeling when I finally get to see a video come together in its completion, when everything began with nothing. Solid black. Soon, the next story idea appears in my mind and filming is planned. Then the process, which is my favorite, even though time consuming, carving the story into something meaningful, memorable, and that I hope everyone enjoys. As a video editor, this is so enjoyable to me to see it come to life and every step along the way is my life's passion.

After all these years, and to begin 2026, I do realize that I have a natural urge to want to create more videos and connect with followers through the channel, but obviously that is nearly impossible when solely doing the types of stories I love to tell so much.

Although the channel is literally just 4 or 5 of subscribers away from 20k subscribers, a milestone that has taken quite some time to reach but one we are very proud of and thankful to all of you for… releasing a single in-depth story documentary roughly every 30 to 45 days doesn’t allow me to connect with followers and share as much video content as I would like to.

For the new year, I want to begin a new concept with the Quest Capsule channel. While there will always be what we’ll call a ā€œFeature Story Documentaryā€ in the works that you’re used to watching if you follow the channel, I’m hoping this year to begin sharing other video content from our travels and life that is more or less unedited and raw. No scripts, no voice over, no music, no bells and whistles and very little editing, just what we see and how we see it. Imperfect commentary and true to vlog form, with all of its imperfections.

I know this will be a change from the more polished narrated video stories you’re used to on the channel that we put out once a month and will continue to do, but as difficult as this might be as a video producer who always wants to make every video as perfect as possible, I hope these new videos, which we’ll call for now ā€œExplore Vlogsā€, will also be something you enjoy watching while the next Feature Story Documentary is in progress.

So here’s the tentative hopeful outlook for 2026, with an absolute focus and mindfulness on longevity, personal health, rest, family, friends, and personal life in the background:

Feature Story Documentaries - These will continue at the typical rate I tend to release them now, roughly one video every 30 to 45 days, depending on story depth and what’s happening in life. With the addition of another type of video to the channel I’ve mentioned, this could add a little additional time to complete a full-length Feature Story Documentary, but it’s important for me to be able to step away from the main feature both mentally and physically for a short period to do other less strenuous storytelling and get out and moving more.

Explore Vlogs - If everything pans out, and I commit, these are the new raw and barely edited vlog-style content I’m hoping to begin releasing to bring you more content. These videos are simply coming along with us and seeing what we are seeing. As I mentioned earlier, No music, no scripts, no bells and whistles, all the mispronunciations, flukes, visuals, and sounds we encounter, and various happenings from different places we travel. Some on camera commentary if Sarah or I need to get things off our minds, sharing thoughts, perspectives, concerns, victories, challenges, and more. These videos won’t all be from Historic Virginia or historic places, but from anywhere we travel, and sometimes even from our home.

I will be providing more details on this soon, and I want to reiterate that this is all tentative as I factor in many different variables as the year begins. This is the plan as of now, always subject to change, but I just wanted to share my thoughts and keep everyone informed.

Update #3:

And the final update...

A new Quest Capsule website is soon to launch! This is something I’ve been working on for a while and hope to be publishing live soon with an announcement to come.

On the new website, you’ll be able to view updates on new videos that are in production, read production diaries, watch the latest Feature Story Documentary, and select from various locations and video categories to watch every video we’ve ever produced directly from the site.

I'm hoping to have a future merchandise store on the site as well, where you’ll be able to purchase history inspired gift items and other products that are in the works, though this will not be available immediately upon launch.

There will also be quick ways to connect with us and support the channel through donations and other avenues directly on the website, as well as other categories that will be added over time to add interest to the website.

The website is still being built, but is expected to launch sometime in February or early March (Potentially earlier).

That covers everything for now, and I hope you enjoyed learning about some of the new things to come, God willing!šŸ™šŸ¼

Sarah and I celebrate ten years of marriage this month, and our first adventure of the year is about to happen, one that, if some of the new ideas mentioned here come to fruition, you might just be getting a glimpse of it soon.

Have a great weekend!
