If you're passionate about the wildlife of the UK, then you're in the right place!
Here on A Shot of Wildlife you'll find documentaries, species fact files, identification guides, wildlife quizzes, and adventures from across the UK.
I'm Liam Smith, a zoology graduate, former wildlife rescuer and educator, and full-time wildlife content creator. Wildlife has been a lifelong passion of mine, and through this channel I aim to help people discover, understand, and appreciate the incredible species that live all around us.
I'm also proud to be a Brand Ambassador for Clifton Cameras, working with a company that shares my passion for helping people connect with nature through photography and videography.
I believe education and awareness are among the most powerful tools we have for protecting wildlife. Every species has a story worth telling, and that's exactly what A Shot of Wildlife is all about.
Thanks for visiting the channel, and enjoy!
A Shot Of Wildlife
Hi everyone, Happy Monday! I've got some exciting news to share.
I'm delighted to announce that I've officially become a Brand Ambassador for Clifton Cameras.
Many of you will know that I only ever work with organisations that genuinely align with the values of this channel. Over the years, A Shot of Wildlife has always been about getting people outdoors, connecting with nature, and helping others to discover the incredible wildlife that we have here in the UK. That's why this partnership is such a natural fit.
Clifton Cameras are a UK based, family-run business who have a fantastic reputation within the photography and optics world- they share the same passion for wildlife and education as me, whilst supplying people with the best equipment (and helping them to get the most out of it). As part of this partnership, I'll have access to a wide range of cameras, binoculars, scopes and other wildlife equipment that I can put through their paces in real-world conditions. I'll be sharing my experiences and honest thoughts along the way, not to sell products, but to help those of you who are interested make informed decisions about the kit that's right for your own wildlife adventures.
Most importantly, nothing changes when it comes to the content you see here. I'll continue to share the wildlife encounters that I have, and create the educational content you've come to expect from the channel.
I'm really looking forward to showing you some of the equipment I'll be using over the coming months and hopefully helping some of you choose the right kit for your own wildlife adventures.
Thank you all for your continued support. Opportunities like this simply wouldn't happen without the amazing community that we've built together.
Liam

Hi everyone, would you like to have a say what wildlife I feature in some of my future videos?
I am going to do a series where I give myself a time limit to find and film a certain species- How will I decide which species I need to find? I wont.
I would like you to comment species down below (or like other people comments if they've already suggested the species you were going to) I will add it to my list. Then, when it comes to filming a video in this episode I will spin a wheel with all of the species listed, then try to find and film whichever it lands on.
To make it reasonable, the species need to be ones that are actually in the UK at that time of year and within the east of England (for now at least).
I look forward to seeing your suggestions!

Hi everyone — I need your honest opinion on something.
I’ve always tried to keep things as fair as possible by posting every video here on YouTube for free (and that’s not going to change). But I’ve been thinking about ways to encourage a few more people to support the channel on Patreon.
One idea I’ve been considering is releasing videos a day or two early for Patreon members.
Before I do anything though, I wanted to ask — would that annoy you, or do you think it’s fair?
I really value your opinions, so I’d genuinely appreciate it if you could vote in the poll below and help me decide.

Sometimes (for reasons beyond my understanding) Videos that I am really happy with and that I think lots of people will enjoy- don't do so well on YouTube. When that happens, YouTube stops recommending them to people and it becomes like a self fulfilling prophecy. That happened with this Starling video, if you did miss it the first time and have a few minutes, check it out now and let YouTube know that it is worth recommending to more people. Thank you > https://youtu.be/45dCXYKK-f0

Because of how the YouTube algorithm works, it isn't wise to post less relevant videos to channel. But I would like all of your feedback on a video idea. It is completely free to see (and I believe you can comment without becoming a member- although there's a free option for that too).

Happy Saturday everyone!
For a long time I have been trying to find a way of making merchandise, that both helps to support this channel, but which is also educational in its own right- and I think I've started to crack it!
Say hello to the first ever A Shot Of Wildlife Identification mugs!
I am making these myself (not the actual mugs, but applying the designs to them) so for now there is a very limited supply.

Have you ever wondered how this channel got it's name?
I've just posted the story over on patreon(it's free to read) alongside an exciting teaser of something to come.

Winter is the hardest time of the year for a lot of birds. Food is scarce, it’s harder to stay warm, and with no leaves on the trees many species are far more exposed to predators. One way that we can help birds through the hard times is by providing food for them.
I’d really like to know how many of you feed garden birds, and whether this is something you do all year round or mainly during the winter months.

Yesterday I shared a short video about kestrels and a couple of people have commented that they are the prettiest birds in the UK- so I wanted to know if you all agree.
In your opinion, what is the most beautiful bird in the UK? (Comment your answers down below and I will make a video featuring the top ten in the new year)

It's a bit early, but as I am waiting for the last video I publish to youtube before Christmas to finish off, I thought I'd just pop up to say thanks.
The 25th will mark 3 months of me being a full time Wildlife filmmaker (which is my fancy way of avoiding the word "youtuber").
In this time millions of people have watched my videos, and hopefully learnt a little about the amazing wildlife of the UK.
There have been times where I have questioned my decisions, and sanity, but things are starting to really click together now.
Thank you for all of your support, especially over the past 3 months, I really really appreciate it!
I will be posting a video between xmas and new year, but if you dont see me before then, I hope you have a fantastic Christmas and a happy new year!
