Green School Bali

Today, our Primary School students actively engaged in a Thematics class called "What's Gonna Work? Teamwork!" It is an extension of the Green School Skills that focused on collaboration and communication.

Students were divided into groups to design and build their team's raft, and test it on the river! Through the activity, learners were encouraged to find ways to share strategies, listen to each other, think and consider before acting on an idea.

We believe students thrive when learning is experiential, collaborative and fun!

Green School Bali

A different kind of classroom.

These are our classrooms. Our whole campus is wall-less, creating an open-space learning environment for our learners.

Such open classrooms might seem disruptive, chaotic, and loud. But at Green School, we believe that with our connection to nature, our learners are encouraged to think openly, be guided by their curiosity, and spark their imagination. Rather than learning behind concrete walls, wall-lessness broadens the learning experience so that it happens all the time, in and out of classrooms. This is one of the most valuable lessons we can teach young people, and ourselves.

We believe that a classroom should be an entrance into the world, not a border to it.

What comes to your mind when you think of a school hallway?

Imagine a school campus carefully designed and placed inside a jungle. That’s how Green School was built; in and around nature, without disturbing the natural habitat that surrounds it. The result is a learning environment that inspires learners, constantly fuels their imagination, nurtures their relationship with the natural world and their responsibility towards conserving and regenerating it.

How can students learn life skills at school?

In their Green Studies class, led by Andy Ashton, our Primary School students spent a Survival Night in the jungle learning and practicing survival skills. Skills they practiced included: building a shelter, making fire, cooking food, treating injuries, as well as learning rescue strategies.

The Survival Night immersed students in nature, building their empathy for the environment, the animals and plants, and also their desire to live in harmony with them. In learning these strategies, children can adapt to a variety of situations, building their problem-solving skills for real-world scenarios.

Learning in nature provides countless opportunities for discovery, new skills, and creativity for everyone 🍃

Before our end-of-year break, our Kindy students visited The Kul Kul Farm, a permaculture farm located a skip away from our bamboo campus. Our young learners took part in a 'Farm-to-Table' activity where they went into the permaculture gardens to harvest some vegetables and with the help of The Kul Kul Farm staff and their teachers, cleaned and cooked the vegetables for lunch!

The trip provided our learners an experience to connect with the environment outside of our campus, get to know the flora and fauna at the farm, and connect with our neighbouring communities.

We hope everyone is enjoying their holidays! We love how this season brings about so much joy and togetherness. In keeping with the holiday spirit, we're reflecting on a few things we're grateful for this year:

1 - That we were able to bring our whole community back to campus for the first time in so long

2- Witnessing the passion and growth of our learners as they navigate their learning journeys with curiosity, creativity and enthusiasm

3- Our faculty living and leading our mission. You are the fuel that keeps us going :)

4- The sounds of our student marimba band echoing through our bamboo campus once again

5 - Our newest families, staff and faculty who have joined our global Green School community

6 - YOU! For your continued support and contribution to creating a better future for all!

From the Green School family to yours, we wish you a #MerryChristmas filled with love, happiness and prosperity! 🎄
