Quick travel tip for anyone in Rome right now. The Pincio terrace above Piazza del Popolo has the best free panorama in the city. The view stretches across the historic center to St. Peter's dome. Go about thirty minutes before sunset and walk down through Villa Borghese afterward. No ticket, no queue, no fee.

Subscriber tip for anyone visiting Rome in July or August. Rome has close to a thousand churches and almost all of them stay cool inside even on the worst heat days. Walking and need a break from the sun? Duck into any church you pass. Most are free, have art worth a few minutes, and the temperature drop is real.

Is anyone going to be in Rome on Pentecost at the Pantheon this year?

The Vigili del Fuoco drop thousands of pink rose petals through the oculus of the Pantheon during mass. It's gotten genuinely popular in the last few years, so if you want to be inside for it, get there by 7 am or you won't fit. The shots from above the oculus are the ones most people remember.
