METAL EMBOSSED ART , ARTIST METALOPLASTICIAN

EUGEN PETER NASCA

My name is Peter Nasca, and I was born Eugen Petru Nasca in 1964 in Transylvania, Romania. I’m a self-taught artist working in the rare and intricate craft of aluminium metal embossing. My journey into art began unexpectedly in the year 2000, at the age of 36, with no prior artistic experience. A visit to the main cathedral in my hometown, Târgu Mureș, changed everything. I was captivated by the beauty of the metal-covered holy icons. When I asked the priest why the faces and hands weren’t embossed like the rest, he replied that it was impossible. That moment challenged me deeply—and inspired me to prove that nothing is truly impossible.
Before discovering my passion for art, I had earned four technical qualifications in Romania: in mechanical engineering, industrial installation, heating stations and pressure calibration. I had no background in art, no teacher, and no guide—only a drive to create and a belief that I could learn by doing. My technical knowledge gave me the discipline and precision needed to begin developing my own method of working with metal.
In 2007, I moved to Ireland with my wife, Mariana, and our two children, Doru and Alexandra. Starting over in a new country brought many challenges, but it also gave me the opportunity to grow. Here, I earned my fifth qualification in welding which helped me refine my skills.
My family has always been the core of my journey. Mariana has supported me every step of the way, and Doru and Alexandra have brought strength and purpose into my life. Their love and support are present in every piece I create.
From 2000 to 2007, I focused on religious iconography, creating highly detailed works that combined aluminium embossing with stained glass and hand-built wooden frames. After moving to Ireland with my family in 2007,and gaining more experience, I began exploring wider themes, while always staying true to my unique style. I work only with aluminium foil between 0.15 and 0.2 millimetres thick, shaping every detail by hand—without shortcuts or machinery.
In 2011, my work was featured in a short documentary on RTÉ’s Nationwide, which introduced my art to a national audience in Ireland—an unforgettable moment for me and my family.
Today, I continue to create from my home in County Cork, even while facing ongoing health challenges. I started this path later in life, with no art training—only passion, persistence, and love for what I do. My art is my voice, my legacy, and a daily reminder that it's never too late to begin something truly meaningful.
