The Atlanta Journal‑Constitution brings its distinct journalism to YouTube through "Curiosities of the South," an immersive video series.
The South is more than a place — it’s often where America’s next chapter begins.
Through on-the-ground reporting, visual explainers and deep dives, "Curiosities of the South" explores stories across the region — the cultural shifts people miss, the communities too often overlooked, and the unanswered questions shaping the South and beyond.
Rooted in the AJC’s tradition of distinctive journalism and vivid storytelling, this channel looks beyond headlines to understand how power, history and change take shape — starting in the South.
New episodes premiere every month.
Cover the South. Uncover the nation.

Episode 2 of Curiosities of the South is out now!
For decades, Dalton, Georgia, proudly called itself the "Carpet Capital of the World" — until the costs of relying on a single industry became impossible to ignore.
As the town continues to reckon with the long‑term impacts tied to its carpet boom today, city officials have also been searching for what comes next. Enter Core Scientific, a massive tech company that arrived as a bitcoin miner, went bankrupt, and is now pivoting to AI and data center infrastructure.
Local leaders see opportunity, while many residents worry about risk, accountability and what history might repeat. This episode of "Curiosities of the South" explores a major manufacturing city in northwest Georgia caught between its past and a high‑stakes future.

For nearly four years, the GBI’s investigation into the Georgia Guidestones bombing had stalled, with few answers and little movement. Now, that may be changing.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has identified two men connected to the investigation: Eric and Kenneth.
Eric has a prior arrest involving explosive devices in Marbletown, New York. Just 25 days before the explosion, he was arrested in Elberton for public drunkenness and obstruction and told an AJC reporter he came to town to “k*ll people.”
Then there’s Kenneth. He’s IED-certified and confirmed he was in Elberton the day of the explosion.
The GBI has since confirmed both men are now considered “active leads.” Both men deny involvement.
After being contacted by the AJC about the investigation, Eric left this voicemail. At one point, it appears Eric and Ken believed the voicemail had ended, but their conversation continues. Here is the voicemail in full.
Listen to how the AJC team uncovers glaring red flags previously unknown to the GBI in Episode 7 of the “Who Blew Up the Guidestones?” podcast. www.ajc.com/georgia-guidestones-podcast/
