The Rogue Banshee

The Rogue Banshee is the channel.
The Rogue Nation is the movement.
If you’re ready to take more control—this is where it starts.

I’m Jason—former FFL and lifelong DIY gunsmith.
I’ve been doing this for over 30 years, not just behind a bench, but in garages, on kitchen tables, and anywhere freedom and function meet.

This isn’t about tactical cosplay or gear worship.
It’s about clarity, safety, and real-world skills you can use right now.

What you’ll find here:

Step-by-step firearm cleaning, disassembly, and reassembly
Gear and tool reviews focused on performance, not hype
DIY gunsmithing techniques explained clearly and confidently
Mindset shifts for anyone building self-reliance one skill at a time

No ego. No gatekeeping. No fantasy.
Just knowledge, independence, and confidence in your hands.

Train. Build. Reclaim.
Welcome to the Rogue Nation.

So, update time.

Over the past month, I started losing vision in my left eye. Last week, I got an official diagnosis of NAION, Non-arteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy.

The simple version: basically a stroke in my left eye.

Since this started, I have been to the ER, had bright lights blasted into my eyes more times than I care to count, had a CT scan, and I have an MRI coming up.

One thing I have found mildly entertaining through all of this is watching doctors throw possible causes at the wall while I keep knocking them down.

First up: high blood pressure.

Good try.

119/77.

Next: diabetes.

Hmmm... I do not have diabetes, and what do you know, the blood test you just ran proved that. Again.

Am I overweight? Yep.

Have I always taken great care of myself? Absolutely not.

But over the last 18 months, I have done a much better job than I did during the previous eight years. My physicals, blood work, and the other testing my PCP has been tracking support that.

So where does that leave us?

Right now, the doctors are not confident about what caused this. Sleep apnea is the current leading suspect.

I do have vision loss in my left eye. The optic nerve is still swollen and may remain that way for months. I have now seen two eye doctors, and they are seeing signs of nerve damage.

The frustrating part is that we may not know how much damage is permanent for several months.

That also explains something some of you have probably noticed.

2026 has been pretty dead for new content on this channel.

I have a pile of half-finished projects that need to get completed, but editing video with one eye acting like it has submitted a resignation letter is a little more difficult than usual.

That said, let me be very clear:

I am not done.

The projects are still here.

The channel is still here.

I am still here.

It may take me a little longer to get things finished while I figure out what my new normal looks like, but The Rogue Banshee is not going anywhere.

And because apparently 2026 needed at least one piece of good news...

Meta finally let me back into my original Instagram account, TheRogueBanshee.

After being locked out for four years, I am back in.

So now I have two Instagram accounts:

TheRogueBanshee

and

TheRogueBansheeMedia

Four years later, Meta finally decided I might actually be me.

Progress, I guess.

You many have noticed I have gone dark lately. That was by design, I have been doing a lot of work on the website to get ready for the next phase of TRB.

Last month I asked a lot of questions in the posts and you all have been pretty clear on what you want. I have been pulling back and reengineering all of TRB. It is taking some time but it is a work in progress. I completely redesigned the website from the ground up. It loads faster, but I am not a software developer so it is taking more time to complete than I wanted and I still have a long way to go.

The majority of you wanted step by step, that is hard to do on the YouTube ecosystem. But you asked and I am working on it. I have some troubleshooting articles on the site that I am rewriting, here was the first. Check it out and let me know what you think. trb.fyi/the-ultimate-glock-troubleshooting-guide-f…

I filmed an AR "deep cleaning" video and am editing that up. I cannot do direct disassembly/reassembly content on YouTube like I used to, but I am allowed to do Disassembly/reassembly in the context of cleaning. So instead of teaching you how to disassemble and reassemble your firearm, I can teach you how to "deep clean" it.

I also injured my back again and have been moving slower than my normal sloth pace (if you watched Zootopia you get the joke). Rest assured, I am still here, not going away, and have been listening to you.

Thank you all for sticking with me, It means more to me than you can imagine.

When I was the in Vegas for SHOT Show, Charlie asked me if I wanted to be on the show. I took the advantage of the opportunity. Such an honor and a good time with ‪@RidingShotgunWithCharlie‬
