Hi, I’m Sean, a British oil painter based in Athens. I create atmospheric paintings of sea and sky, alongside occasional painting tutorials and sketches.
Painted on an Ampersand Gessobord panel and I thoroughly enjoyed the surface. There were a few struggles along the way, but I’m really pleased with how it’s turning out.
I’ll let it dry for a week before making a few final adjustments.
After years of smaller oil studies, I’ve finally started going larger.
This is one of my first major oil paintings for a new series called West Light. I’ve spent years quietly refining my craft and finding what feels most like me as a painter. Moody skies, atmosphere and light.
Honestly, going larger feels both exciting and slightly terrifying 🤣
20-minute palette knife oil sketch using only palette knives. Full tutorial coming to YouTube today. Grab my free materials list here: seanfear.co.uk/courses/
Quick 2 hour oil sketch on unstretched linen 12 x 12 inches. Painted in one session from the roof, focusing on capturing the mood of a sunset rather than the details. A good reminder that sometimes it’s more about atmosphere than perfection.

A new coastline painting, almost complete.

Two little oil sketches from today, both painted in under 30 minutes and mostly with a palette knife.
A good reminder that quick studies are a great place to experiment, loosen up, and try new things.
I filmed both of these, and the process will be coming to YouTube soon.

I painted over an old piece recently.
It’s strange how one risk, one experiment, can quietly set the direction for the next nine months.
When the weather improves, I’ll be outside painting big again. I can’t wait.
Have you ever taken a creative risk that changed everything?
