📘 BASIC OF ELECTRICAL MEASUREMENT – CLEAN QUICK REVISION NOTES

1. Measuring System के 5 Main Elements

① Primary Sensing Element (PSE)
➤ Input quantity को sense करता है।
➤ Non-electrical signal को electrical signal में convert कर सकता है।
➤ Example: Transducer, Strain Gauge

② Data Conversion Element (DCE)
➤ Signal की nature बदलता है।
➤ Example:
Analog → Digital
Digital → Analog
Voltage → Current
Current → Voltage

③ Data Manipulation Element (DME)
➤ Signal की nature नहीं बदलता।
➤ केवल signal level बदलता है।
➤ Amplifier → level बढ़ाता है।
➤ Attenuator → level घटाता है।

④ Data Transmission Element (DTE)
➤ Signal को display unit तक भेजता है।
➤ Example: Cable, Bus, Probe

⑤ Data Presentation Element (DPE)
➤ Final output दिखाता है।
➤ Analog → Pointer
➤ Digital → LED/LCD/7-segment display

2. Methods of Measurement

① Direct Method
➤ Unknown quantity को directly standard quantity से compare करते हैं।

② Indirect Method
➤ Reading calculation/relation से मिलती है।
➤ More accurate and sensitive.
➤ Exam में ज्यादा important.

3. Types of Instruments

① Mechanical Instrument
➤ Vernier Caliper, Micrometer, Dial Gauge

② Analog Instrument
➤ Pointer + Scale होता है।

③ Digital Instrument
➤ Digital display होता है।
➤ Example: Digital Multimeter

4. Absolute / Primary / Indirect Instrument

➤ Direct reading नहीं देता।
➤ Reading mathematical expression से मिलती है।
➤ Calibration की जरूरत नहीं होती।
➤ दूसरे instruments को calibrate करने में use होता है।

Examples:
➤ Tangent Galvanometer
➤ Rayleigh Current Balance
➤ Absolute Electrometer

5. Secondary / Direct Instrument

➤ Direct reading देता है।
➤ Deflection के terms में reading मिलती है।
➤ Practical instruments mostly secondary होते हैं।

6. Null Type vs Deflection Type Instrument

Null Type Instrument:
➤ Accuracy high
➤ Sensitivity high
➤ Response slow
➤ Dynamic condition के लिए suitable नहीं
➤ Examples: Potentiometer, Bridges, LVDT, Galvanometer

Deflection Type Instrument:
➤ Accuracy comparatively less
➤ Sensitivity less
➤ Response fast
➤ Dynamic condition के लिए suitable
➤ Examples: PMMC, Moving Iron, Ammeter, Voltmeter

7. Analog Instruments के Types

① Indicating Instrument
➤ Pointer + Scale required
➤ Instantaneous value देता है।
➤ Example: PMMC, Moving Iron, Dynamometer Wattmeter

② Recording Instrument
➤ Quantity को continuously record करता है।
➤ Example: Recording Voltmeter, CRO, ECG, X-Y Plotter, Black Box

③ Integrating Instrument
➤ Total quantity over time measure करता है।
➤ Example: Energy Meter, Odometer, kVARh Meter

8. Electromechanical Indicating Instrument में 3 Torques

① Deflecting Torque (Td)
➤ Pointer को zero से reading position तक ले जाता है।
➤ Also called Operating Torque.
➤ Measured quantity पर depend करता है।

② Controlling Torque (Tc)
➤ Deflecting torque के opposite लगता है।
➤ Pointer को zero position पर वापस लाता है।
➤ At steady state:
Td = Tc

③ Damping Torque
➤ Pointer की oscillation/vibration को कम करता है।
➤ Reading को जल्दी stable करता है।

9. Controlling Torque Methods

Spring Control Method:
➤ Scale uniform और linear होता है।
➤ More accurate
➤ Small size
➤ Tc ∝ θ

Gravity Control Method:
➤ Scale non-uniform और non-linear होता है।
➤ Less accurate
➤ Heavy size
➤ Tc ∝ sinθ

10. Exam Trap Points

➤ Null type instrument = High accuracy + high sensitivity.
➤ Deflection type instrument = Fast response.
➤ PMMC = Deflection type.
➤ Potentiometer = Null type.
➤ Energy meter = Integrating instrument.
➤ CRO = Recording instrument.
➤ Spring control = Uniform scale.
➤ Gravity control = Non-uniform scale.
➤ Controlling torque opposes deflecting torque.
➤ Damping torque removes oscillation.
➤ Absolute instrument does not require calibration.
➤ Secondary instrument gives direct reading.
