Vaidhika Dharma (vaidhikadharma.org) helps to follow our Vedic way of life. A Vedic way of life consists of three aspects / components : anushtanam (rituals), dharma (ethics) and swaadhyaya (study of the scriptures).
If you are looking for a way to connect with your spiritual side, improve your mental and physical health, or simply enjoy the beauty of sound, Vedic chanting may be a good option for you.

*Adhika Jyeshtha Maas 2026*
Once every 2 or 3 years, Lunar calendar gets an extra month. This is called Adhika Maas. Some call it Mala Maas, while others call it Purushottama Maas.
This year, the extra month comes during Jyeshtha. So in 2026, we will have two Jyeshtha months:
• Adhika Jyeshtha – the extra month
• Nija Jyeshtha – the regular month
*Adhika Jyeshtha starts: 17 May 2026*
*Adhika Jyeshtha ends: 14 June 2026*
From *15 June 2026*, Nija Jyeshtha begins.
People following solar calendars like *Tamil, Malayalam, and Bengali* calendars do not observe *Adhika Maas* in the same way. This mainly applies to those following lunar panchangam traditions. Mixing both calendar systems is one of the most common mistakes people make.
What is generally avoided during Adhika Maas?
During Mala Maas, auspicious ceremonies like:
• Marriage
• Pumsavanam
• Upanayanam
• Gruhapravesham
• Bhoomi Puja
are generally avoided according to traditional dharma shastra practices.
But spiritually, this month is considered extremely sacred.
In Padma Purana, Lord Vishnu Himself says: I have become the master/lord of this month which is devoid of any solar transition (sankranti). Therefore, by My own name, this month shall be known across the universe as Purushottama Maas.
The Skanda Purana establishes the spiritual weight of this month, explicitly stating that actions performed during this period yield a thousand times more merit than those performed during regular holy periods.
This month is especially meant for:
• Vishnu nama japa
• Bhagavad Gita reading
• Vishnu Sahasranama
• Charity and annadanam
• Fasting and simple living
• More prayer and self-reflection
*About Shradh during Adhika Maas*
Varshika Shradh (Abdika / yearly Shradh) is usually performed in the regular month and not in the extra Adhika month.
So if the tithi falls between 17 May and 14 June 2026, wait and perform the Shradh during Nija Jyeshtha, which begins from 15 June 2026.
May this sacred Purushottama Maas bring peace, devotion, clarity, and divine grace to all.

*mana eva manuṣyāṇāṁ kāraṇaṁ bandha-mokṣayoḥ |*

Mind alone is the reason for both bondage and liberation.
When mind is attached to outside things, it brings bondage.
When mind is free from attachment, it leads to liberation.
We cannot stop thoughts. Mind will always think - that is its nature.
But problem is not thoughts… problem is following every thought.
Let thoughts come… just don’t go behind them.”
Like clouds in the sky - come and go.
Sky never runs behind clouds. You are that sky-like awareness.

————
Meaning:
Just like in dream, the place, time, people, and even “I” feel real - but actually are not real…
In the same way, this waking world also appears real because of our ignorance.
This body, mind, breath, and ego - all these are not the ultimate truth.
You are that pure, peaceful, untouched, non-dual Brahman.
⸻—
Explanation:
See, when we are dreaming, everything looks fully real, no?
We feel fear, happiness, tension - as if it is actually happening.
But once we wake up, we laugh… “Arre, it was just a dream!”
Vedanta is telling something very powerful here.
It says: even this waking life, which we think is 100% real, is also somewhat like that dream.
Not that it doesn’t exist… but we are misunderstanding its true nature.
We are thinking:
“I am this body”,
“I am this stress”,
“I am this success or failure”.
But actually, these are all temporary layers.
Your real nature is something deeper - calm, silent, untouched.
Like the screen in a movie…
So many scenes come - action, emotion, drama - but screen is always unaffected.
Same way, your true Self is always peaceful.
Problem comes only when we forget this and get fully attached to the “movie”.

*Ishavasya Upanishad*
*5th Mantra*
tad ejati tan naijati tad dūre tad vantike |tad antar asya sarvasya tadu sarvasyāsya bāhyataḥ || 5 ||
This mantra explains the wonderful nature of the Self (Ātman). It says: “It moves, and It does not move. It is far, and It is near. It is inside everything, and It is also outside everything.”
How to understand this? The Self does not physically move, because It is everywhere. But through the body and mind, It appears to move. It is said to be far for the one who is ignorant and searching outside. But for the one who understands, It is very near in fact, it is one’s own true nature.
For example, electricity is present everywhere in a building through wiring. It seems to act differently in fan, light, or heater, but electricity itself is one and unchanged. In the same way, the one Consciousness appears as many beings, yet remains one.
The Self is all-pervading, inside and outside, near and far. Realising this removes the feeling of separation and brings unity vision.

*Ishavasya Upanishad*
*1st Mantra*
*īśāvāsyam idaṁ sarvaṁyat kiñca jagatyāṁ jagat |*
*tena tyaktena bhuñjīthāmā gṛdhaḥ kasyasvid dhanam || 1 ||*
Everything in this world, moving or non-moving, is covered by Ishwara.
So enjoy what comes to you with detachment. Do not be greedy. Do not desire other’s wealth. Because nothing truly belongs to us in an absolute sense.
*Live in this world with contentment. Use what God has given. Do not run behind greed.*
For example, if someone around us has more success or possessions, instead of jealousy, we should focus on performing our own duties sincerely and remain satisfied with what is rightfully ours. This attitude brings peace, dignity, and inner freedom.
*This is the first teaching of Ishavasyopanishad.*

Yesterday is only like a dream and tomorrow is also just imagination created by the mind. If a person wants to live a good and meaningful life, he should properly and fully do his duties today itself. The teaching is that past is gone, future is uncertain, so we must focus on the present day and act sincerely and completely now.

Mauni Amavasya
17-02-2026
Mauni Amavasya is the name given to the Amavasya (New Moon day) that falls in the Tamil month of Maasi (Magha month). This day is considered very sacred, especially for taking a holy bath in rivers.
On this day, one should wake up early in the morning, brush the teeth, and go to a nearby river or water body. After taking a sankalpam (a prayerful resolve), the bath should be taken before sunrise. An important rule of this day is that from the time you wake up until you complete your first bath, you should not speak to anyone.
Just imagine, if everyone in the world remained silent from around 5:00 AM until sunrise (around 6:00 AM), how peaceful and quiet the world would feel. That is the spirit of Mauni Amavasya - observing silence.
On this day, the Sun and the Moon come together in the same zodiac sign (Makara Rasi - Capricorn). The Moon will also be in the star Uttiradam, which is associated with the Sun.
In our body, there are two important energy channels called Ida and Pingala Nadis. The Sun is connected with Pingala Nadi, and the Moon is connected with Ida Nadi. Since both the Sun and Moon are aligned on this day, it is believed that these energy channels function very well, and our breathing becomes balanced and smooth.
Therefore, Mauni Amavasya is considered a very good day to control the mind, observe silence, chant mantras, and do meditation.

The vow of Shivaratri destroys all sins and gives both worldly happiness and liberation to all people.
*******
Mahasivaratri is the most sacred night of Lord Sadasiva. On this holy night, devotees observe fasting, chant “Om Namah Shivaya,” and perform abhishekam to the Shiva Lingam. Scriptures explain that Lord Shiva appeared as an infinite Jyotirlinga, showing that He is the Supreme Brahman beyond beginning and end. Worship done with sincerity on this night removes ignorance (avidya) and purifies the mind. Mahasivaratri is not only for material blessings but mainly for spiritual awakening and inner transformation.
Sadasiva is the giver of Gnana (divine knowledge) and grants Jivanmukta - liberation while living. When a devotee prays with pure heart and understands that Shiva is the inner Self (Atma), ignorance is destroyed and true wisdom shines. By staying awake in remembrance of Shiva, we symbolically rise above darkness and enter the light of knowledge. Thus, Mahasivaratri teaches that through devotion, self-control, and meditation on Sadasiva, one can attain peace, wisdom, and finally liberation.
